Ok, well...I decided to do a little 'spring cleaning' of my PC since my Norton is about 2 years out of date on the virus definitions I went and downloaded the program Avast to do my virus protection duties. Well, after that I uninstalled Norton and it's LiveUpdate components...and went into the C drive and deleted some files from the shared(?) folder, I think thats what it's called. Anyway, now, whenever I try to run IE or even MSN I get this stupid error messege...and it even happens when I try to do a system restore, how can I fix this? help please!!

Error messege

Two suggestions.....

1: Use Google and lookup that error message...maybe someone has already resolved it.

2: Download SpyBot v1.3 or Ad-Aware 1.04 and check your system.

Let us know what happens....

I Googled the DLL, only three results, none helpful. I'd say you might be looking at reinstall of IE at least. When you say MSN, you mean MSN Explorer right?

EDIT: How far back are you going on the System Restore point?

Yea, I have the Verizon DSL w/ MSN Premium package, so yes MSN Explorer.

For the system restore, it wont even let me open it up, I get an error messege "Rstrui has caused an error in AHASCR.dll"

When I try to open the control panel I get a "Explorer caused an error in KERNEL.32.dll"

Any suggestions?

So does that mean if I uninstall Avast, it should fix my problems, hopefully. And how do I uninstall it, if I can't open the control panel, and it's not an option in the start menu?

Go to "Program Files" on your root drive and their should be some way to uninstall it from the program's directory.

EDIT: Actually, I'm not sure how wise this plan is. It says ahascr is missing right? That would mean re-installing Avast, and THAT should fix it.

Hmm, never thought of doing that, thanks. I'll try it when I get home later tonight and see what happens. Hopefully I wont have to do anything drastic to get it fixed.

Thanks.

Wellp, I got home and uninstalled Avast, and that cured the Explorer and IE crash problem I had, but when I'd go to view the C drive or Control Panel, the folders would show up blank...so I went and installed the IE service pack and that cured my problems...now I just have to fix Windows Media, I guess that was affected by this whole thing too, and now it wont work.

Thanks for the ideas guys.
