Umm.. 9800 GTX Anyone?

Ever since NV introduced 8800 series cards and its weird memory configurations (384-bit, 640MB, etc.) I suspected that these were a stop-gap (or a step towards, whatever) for a full blown 512-bit/1GB configuration. According to the latest DailyTech report, NV might actually has these under its sleeves and be playing a wait game.

D9E, the enthusiast component slated to replace the GeForce 8800-series, will incorporate all of the features of D9P and add a 512-bit memory bus. NVIDIA is holding its cards close on D9E, and has not provided any other guidance or release date.

Well the time has come to pull the rabbit out of the hat already! :|

By design or by chance, software has caught up with the hardware. 15-20fps in a modern shooter using the fastest single card available is simply crap. I'm not considering buying Crysis (or any other game) unless I can play it at 35+ with decent eye candy using a single card.

I've come to enjoy watching launch dates carefully. Everything seems so, timed. I suspect the stage is being set for the introduction of... something. We need a new hero and both camps know it..

you can play it with decent eye candy.... take the settings off very high and put it on low shadows. gameplay smooths out considerably

Bring this on!

Soon please, as my GTX ain't hacking it for anything these days, & SLi motherboards are the last thing i want to deal with.

I am anticipating this release. The mid range stuff does not do it for me, high end is where the excitement is at. A new high end card is overdue and in the sake of Crysis - very much needed.

Plus, G92 even its current form (8800 GT) needs more bandwidth. I think the 8800 GTX is quite balanced in this end, at least at its stock frequencies. GT's lower bandwidth (primarily due to its 256-bit, then 900MHz frequency) holds its legs, IMO. RAM prices are all-time low if I'm not mistaken - time to step up and stick some more RAM on these new cards.

Yeah im not a fan of sli either but im using my lower pcie slot because of the huge hr03 cooler on my video card

You don't have to SLI just because you have an SLI board. 😛 I know what you mean wrt SLI (and agree 100%), but SLI boards can give unique flexibility if you choose to make use of it. I use it mainly to spread heat sources around the build.

Use the bottom PEG w/o performance loss

Nice & neat case layout 🙂

As for SLI motherboards, hahahaaa   🙁
I know you're happy with yours, which is great.

But i've spent enough time on XS to know that an nForce 650i/680i chipset is basically the last thing i ever want to fight with, nevermind my buddies' experiences with them.
Obviously, every motherboard can have its problems, but when they're just so amazingly abundant, i prefer to avoid those odds.

Not to mention it angers me greatly that nV still insists on forcing us to buy their overpriced crapsets just to SLI, when we all know we could be running it even better on Intels, etc.

Having a 2560x1600 display really pushes the matter of GPU power though...for the first time since buying this baby i really am feeling that my GTX is a weakling 😛

I just hope we see a new flagship really soon, as it really sucks having to turn down the resolution/settings in these newer games.

Yeap, if nVidia would license SLI on Intel chipsets, I would have SLI 8800GTs not now but right now! If ATI pulls a rabbit out of their hat and offers up 8800GT like performance for the same cost, I will have crossfire in my 975X rig. From what I've read up on 680i chipsets, they seem like beta class hardware at best.
