CHIP FOUNDRY UMC released its first quarter results today and said it will start production for a "graphic chip customer" during the current quarter.
That customer, claimed the Economic Daily News is Nvidia, which will build 90 nanometre G7 graphics chips from next month.
UMC turned in revenues of NT$24.4 billion ($752 million) for its first quarter, making a net income of NT$12.29 billion ($379 million), a staggering 303.6 per cent sequential rise.
It will start volume production for the graphics chip customer. Revenues from the computer segment fell in the quarter because of softness in demand for chipsets and peripheral components. µ
