Umax scanner lamp problem.

Hi all,
I bought a Umax Astra 3400 scanner yesterday and it has been working fine. Today the lamp won't come on! I probably have a dud but I am curious...has anyone had any experience with these? What would be considered normal life for a lamp? Are they difficult to change?
I am taking it back tomorrow to get a new one...it's a good deal so I'll stick to the same one.
Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

If it died that quickly, it's definitely a dud... do yourself a favor and definitely get it exchanged. I don't think you ever want to bother with changing the lamp yourself. I'd just go out and buy another one if that was the case. I have the Umax Astra 1220U, running strong for three years...
 
Thanks a bunch bud. I already had it packed in the box ready to take back when I read your reply. I checked the software and sure enough you were right. Neither on nor off were selected. I wonder how it got that way? I know I didn't touch it before?
I have set it now to "on" and turn off automatically in 10 min.
