I recently emailed customer support, asking them if they were ever going to release a Win2000 driver for the Umax Astra 1220U scanner. They already have a Win98/ME and NT driver, so I figured the 2000 driver should be similar to the NT driver.

Well the tech support guy replied telling me that they weren't going to, because it is impossible. To get the scanner to work under Windows 2000, he said they would have to make hardware changes... he told me that the scanner suppors Win95/98/ME only... he never mentioned NT.

Is there any truth in that? I'm thinking they were just giving me the run around...

Yeah, I figured... but I just wanted to know if Umax was pulling my leg or anything. Seems weird that an operating system would require a hardware overhaul to get a scanner to work under it...

Bought it a while back, when it first came out. Waited three freaking months for it, and paid around $275 for it (I think...). Anyway, I guess it's time for a new scanner. Always wanted an Epson anyway (that upcoming CompUSA deal).

By the way, how was it like working for UMAX?

Hold the phone fellas.....

I have a UMAX 1220U.

I used to run w2k and the scanner works fine with native w2k drivers.

Now, I run 98SE and use the UMAX drivers.

The w2k native drivers were great, only catch is that there is no feature in software to turn the light on and off, so you have to keep the scanner unplugged when not in use, which I do anyway even in 98SE.

DOH!!! Hehehe, too late, just got back from CompUSA, got a great deal on the floor model for the Epson 610U though. $25, nothing else, just the scanner at the power cable.

Wow, I think UMAX just lost a customer. The freaking bastard lied to me... damn. I am freaking pissed...
