Umax 2000U in WinXP

I was trying to decide whether to post this here or in general hardware or technical support.

I've got a Umax 2000U scanner and had to get Vistascan 3.55 to get it work in XP. After installing, when I try to run the scanner test, it can't find the scanner. But when I scan inside Paint Shop Pro, it will scan if I select "WIA-UMAX Astra 2000U 1.0 (32-32)" as the source, but if I select "VistaScan32 V3.55.2.1 (32-32)", it can't find the scanner. Anyone know why?
