A few months ago I posted a question about getting a Umax 1220P scanner to work in Windows 2k. One member posted that he got it to work using the Windows drivers for the 610P but I can't seem to get it to work. It installs error free but then is unavailable in the properties.

Has anyone gotten this to work that can lend a suggestion?

Thx

I had remembered seeing someone post this on usenet about downloading the drivers from their
uk or some european site! Have you tried that and maybe check if the drivers you have are the same/different ?

Anyway here is the uk site: http://support.umax.co.uk/

Good Luck!

I had the same issue under win2k aswell. In fact if you check the umax inf file in the windows directory you will see that the 1220p is rem'd out. This is because the driver was never completed by Umax. I have managed to install the scanner using the 610p drivers that are built in to win2k. Then i installed vista scan software. I works great, but slow.

Ah, Iron Woode, you were one of the posters a few months back as well. Thanks for checking this. I tried the 610P setting and it doesn't work for me. Any suggestions? It installs but then it can't be accessed. If I go to properties, the test button is grayed out as well.

I will check the UK website in a few minutes as well.

Thanks for the help.

You must install the twain drivers. Vista-scan 3.55 has the twain drivers required and should work fine. You can use Presto Pagemanager that came with the scanner.

Other than that, I am not sure what to do. My solution to this problem was to buy another scanner. I bought a Microtek scanmaker 3700 (usb) that is fully compatible with win2k and XP.

So the Twain drivers aren't installed from the OS?

Ok, do you have to install in a certain order? One before the other? Or did you install from your driver disk provided then change the drivers for the scanner?

I too may just buy another one, but I hate to because I use it very seldom anymore. If it would work for a few faxes here and there, I'd rather not spend the money.

By the way, I found some drivers on the UK site... but they are in German. Ugh, I'm going to see if I can figure it out.

With information from both of you and some trial and error, I did indeed get it to work.

Thank you both.
