Anyone know if the Umax 1220P scanner (the parallel port version) is compatible with XP? The website says it is not compatible but really talks about compatibility with the MS Paint program in XP, not Umax software compatibility. There are no updated drivers listed.

I use this thing enough that I don't want to get rid of it but not enough that I want to spend money on a new scanner.

This was a pretty common cheat scanner so I hope someone has tried this. Thanks for any help

Well, I found some old threads and I'm guessing the answer is a big fat no.

If anyone knows any workarounds I would sure be interested though. Thx.

I have this scanner but haven't tried to use it under XP. I did however get it to work under win2k. If under winXP there is a umax 610P or something similar then install that one. The scanner will work then.

UMAX's US support sucks, period. Try the UK site. they do a much better job of releasing new drivers than the US office does. The US branch of UMAX doesn't even acknowledge the existance of XP. It took them 8 months before they recognized W2K, and even then their drivers only worked half-assed.

Remember their lack of support when you buy another scanner, I'll never buy UMAX again.

I just tried it out and the scanner will work under XP using 610p. The next thing is to decide which program to use to aquire an image. Scince there is lots of choice, i will leave that up to you.

Thanks for the info.

Weak: USB ones are totally different. They work under XP. Parallel is not officially supported.

For whatever it's worth, I have an ancient HP scanner (5s) that both HP and M$ said wouldn't work.

Once I had everything else working, I said wtf and tried installing it.... it worked great!?

(I use paperport 7 with it)

anyway, I think it is worth trying it out, no matter what ya find in the info sites. Just get everything

else stable first so you know if it is the scanner that hozors things up if things go wrong.

Yep and because of that no more Umaxs for me, ever, even though they're not half bad.
