so i have speedfan 4.31 and core temp beta 0.94 sitting right next to eachtother.

cpu is a e6600

speedfan reports: cpu1: 88F
cpu2: 71F

Core temp reports: cpu1: 104F
cpu2: 99F

cpu1 is a difference of 16 degrees, and cpu2 is a difference of 28 degrees!

why are these two so off???? i mean 5 degrees wouldnt be so bad, but 28???

They are both accurate...
One is measured based on a motherboard sensor (speedfan), while the other is based on sensors inside the cpu. I would also trust core temp because it is basically an upper limit on temperature.

You are going to have a hard time finding Fahrenheit comparisons of your temps online.

Use C.

hmmm.... i had the same issue as you did. Except for me the it was the other way around

coretemp wouldnt ever stay still. It would jump very drastically. Like go 45C -> 19C ->30C

RmClock and Speedfan both reported same temps, while coretemp was always off on my opty.

Ummm i vote you try a third program. Use Intel's TAT. I would trust that over all the 3 you listed on a C2D machine.
