nothing special, it should be expected from a V8

Tuners here are getting over 1200hp out of the 4litre inline 6 with a single turbo used in the Ford Falcon.

um.. these are pretty small turbos, he is still on stock drivetrain components, and hasnt upgraded much in the engine afaik.

like I said nothing special....I expect that sort of horse power from turbo V8's

It's just that those sort of figures sound more impressive when they come from a 6 cylinder family sedan, rather than a V8 powered sports car.

Well things are a *lot* more restrictive due to smog laws, environmental crap, etc here in the states. That's why we don't see such badass cars like the Falcon and the (real) Holden here stateside.

you better do some research on the smog laws in Australia then....we model our laws off of California, we have some of the toughest emission laws and rego requirements in the world....half of the stuff you guy's take for granted on the streets in the US (Like N2O and plenty of other perfomance enhancing goodies) are banned out right in Australia...so we have to make our power using other method's

the only modification to the bottem end of the Falcon 6 cylinders in the installation of a crank girdle...everything else is left stock on the bottom end(although conrods can become suspect after 1200hp) but upto 1200 horsey's the bottem end is pretty much how it left the factory.

Manual's need heavier clutches installed(thats what we get for using US components), but diff is good for the power as long as the right foot is kept in check at launch(I don't know of too many diffs that would handle that kind of power when abused anyway).

yeah the numbers are insane, wonder how much of that power is useable though....specially when he fits the bigger turbos...

it'll be like the jag XJ220..... 50mph.......50......51.........52.......54....72....93....111.....134....151 lol

turbo lag FTW.

i would really like to see what type of numbers the W16 in the veyron can make. apparently the engine was easily capable of 1200+ bhp but they just didnt have room for al the cooling.

turbo power is fine if you just want big powa! for me though Naturally aspirated engines with big power or with superchargers are better, the power is more useable. instead of coming at you in big lumps at 4000rpm

I doubt that tuners really improve a car such as a ford GT or other supercars. Just increasing some numbers or putting "bigger" things on won't really improve a car overall. Actually I dont get why ppl think that they can really improve cars like that. If Ford thaught the car will be better with a 1200hp engine dont you think they would have done just that?

Have you seen the 0-150 numbers that C&D put down? It's the fastest they have ever tested....and it wasn't the 1200HP version either, it was more like 800HP.
That's just silly fun.

Thats not the reason why manufacturers don't do 1400 hp. First they'll get their ass nailed by federal emissions, second less safe (insurance like crazy). Third, obviously, durability. The cars may go for 1/4 mile to but to maintain a sustained high speed (like 220 mph) you will need super expensive forged internals and strong chassis. Skyline/supra motors are pretty tough, good for 1khp and durable. Search for "fastest new zealand car/skyline" you'll see a nice vid of skyline doing crazy speed run :)

Basically its like, why won't amd sell 3.4ghz a64's, and intel 4ghz core 2's, its possible, but includes sideffects as well, making it not worth doing on large scale.

With torque numbers like that he could pull stumps. I wonder how long it takes to spool up those turbos?

It's because if they released a 1200hp car like this GT TT it would be astonomically expensive. They'd sell hundreds normal GTs to one like this. It's not practical for them.

Car makers focus on a general scale, and tuners tune on a specific scale. Whether it be drag, auto-x, road race, etc) There's ALWAYS room for improvement/enhancement.

It's the same reason people constantly upgrade their computers or O/C them. It's not always because they're sufficient, it's that there's always room to grow.
