Thoughts on this ??!!
Yeah - who the fvck cares, since it's not going to happen. It's a time waster of a bill that was put forth to make a statement.

I dint see something like this passing.

it has been prover that people who willingly join the military are far better soldiers then someone forced to join.

This is a ploy by the far left Dems to stop the war. The Vietnam war drew such huge protects because of the draft. The majority of protests promptly stopped when the draft ended in 1973.

Just look at who put it forward: Charles Rangel. You cannot get much farther left than this idiot.

BTW, you have nothing to worry about. This has no chance in hell of ever passing.

THis is most definately not a ploy to stop the war - that would obvously never work. Bills like this are brought up every so often by minority congressman to make the point that the majority of the army is made up of minorities - and they feel this is not right. Basically, they're saying all the rich/middle white kids get off because they have real oppurtunities in their life, while so many poor black/minorities kids join because the army is the only oppurtunity they have. Apparently, they don't think thats right.

Okay I'm not worried about this passing, etc. I would like DISCUSSION on the topic though. Although on second thought does this belong in Politics section? ....

Not if you actually want a discussion.

right i seem to recall seeing something like this on CNN once.

They wanted mandatory service for all men/women of age. They were claiming that the poor had to join to get college benifits or get out of the slums. While rich kids were able to go to college without joining the military.

one year active service, one year 'on call'. Two years is too long for a young person to put their lives on hold. But I think that they should be ready to be 'called up'.

and I SOOOOO don't think that women belong in combat. In the military, fine... but in active combat... no way. They are not, on the whole, as strong as men and would only slow the men down.

Generally this is true, but in this particular case and it's timing, Rangiel himself stated it was brought up because of the war. His intentions are two-folded.

This is ok with me as long as politicians are not exempted from serving on the front line. Young men die for old mens wars. Maybe that should change.

Say that to the women serving in combat in Iraq right now and I would laugh as they kicked your ass.

wouldnt take much to kick my ass. I am older and out of shape. but it is no secret that military training was downgraded in difficulty to allow women to pass so it is nice and PC now.
