Hey all,

I've got the DC client running on a PIII 1ghz, pc. My average upload to the keyserver is about 5 packets a day. Is this normal?

Benchmark RC5(long)
.....10%
[Mar 03 07:03:43 UTC] Automatic processor type detection found
an Intel Pentium III processor.
[Mar 03 07:03:43 UTC] RC5: using core #2 (RG class 6).
[Mar 03 07:04:02 UTC] Benchmark for RC5 core #2 (RG class 6)
0.00:00:16.12 [2,275,855.14 keys/sec]

Benchmark RC5(short)
[Mar 03 07:04:38 UTC] Benchmark for RC5 core #2 (RG class 6)
0.00:00:08.64 [2,304,580.21 keys/sec]

Good?
Bad?

That looks a little low for a 1GHz. I plugged "1000" into the P3 box at the Speed Page and it gives 2.8Mkey/sec as the optimal output. You might have something running in the background that is using some CPU power, because the client runs at high priority during the benchmark. Whatever else is running is taking a significant 0.5Mkey/sec bite out of your ideal rate. Maybe you have Microsoft Office installed and FindFast is running in the background?

I have a Duron 750 that gets approx 2.3 Mkeys/sec, so you should be significantly above that with a GHZ PIII. One possibility is that your computer does more work than mine does in terms of applications and background tasks - all mine does is crack for 21 hours, run Oni for 1 hour, and surf for 2 hours each day.

That seems slow?! I normally get for my RC5 something like 2.25-28MKeys/sec, and my comp is a Classic Athlon 650. So for your one ou should get much higher!

Albert.

Try turning the priority up! I have it set to 8.

Clinotus,

Please post your dnetc.ini file - and tell us the operating system you are using.

This looks alot like Win2K from what you're describing... or... you may have a screen-saver, or power management enabled.

We'll get you cracking at a much higher rate... :)

Thank you DanC, Here is my .ini

I run Windows Me:
No desktop image

The above is one possible problem... If you just want to crack RC5 only, then you would need:

[misc]
project-priority=RC5,DES=0,OGR=0,CSC=0

There's a possibility that you are pulling and running OGR stubs inbetween RC5 blocks between flushes... If that's so, then the Borg are now contributing to the TeAm's OGR effort! ;)

I get 2.4mkeys on my t-bird 700. I would have though that the PIII 1ghz would have been able to muster more than 2.8

Schola, amd's chips are much better suited to do rc5 then pentiums. For example, a pentium 1 ghz, according to the speed page, gets 2.8 mkeys/sec, while my friend's athlon 1 ghz gets about 3.4 mkeys/sec.

I'm not sure why this is tho.....:Q

It's about the 3 (FPU ?) units on the athlon vs the p3's two.

My Athlon 863 gets 3.1 MKeys/sec

I've got to bump this one up again, even with the 5 as the set priority when I get home at night, I've only got 3 packets in the buff out. I'm thinking of doing a (shudder) reformat, theres got to be a program/service somewhere hogging processer time.....anyhow here's the ini again.

Clinotus, it isn't enough to remove the OGR, DES and CSC entries from the INI file. To truly stop OGR from running, you must put an OGR=0 entry in the priority line.

[misc]
project-priority=DES=0,CSC=0,OGR=0,RC5

me thinks you have something like a compaq or hp or something like that?

my gf's and her bro have an hp and compaq each... and well, don't wanna get flamed
but the performance is horrible

just an example from last night... he tried 3dmark2000 on his P3 800 and his cpu score was about 40% of my athlon 1gig score....

if thats true, i assume if he cracked, he'd be getting pretty bad on the blocks....
...trying to get him to join ta, but he joined some hong kong team... and worst is, i had my gf's comp cracking for us... but than she was scared it wasn't gd to leave it on... than he formated, than he added her comp to his heard... =*(

thats my theory! am i right?!? am i right?!?!

<< you have something like a compaq >>

Hey now.... let's not be tossing names around. ;)

Look at my combined production with six-of-nine-unimatrix-six. Most of this is done on Compaq machines. Much of the rate has to do with one's tuning of the OS, not the hardware.
My dual-proc proliants compete with anything out there. I just wish they were AMD processors - I'd get more out of them.

If they're not meeting benchmarks, post the .ini files and specs... we'll have them screaming in no time. :)

No compaq. Dell. I updated the ini file to reflect:

<< project-priority=DES=0,CSC=0,OGR=0,RC5 >>

Thanks you all for your help
