Ultralight (~2-3lb) Dual Core Lappy Recommendation?

I've got an LG X100 that I imported from Australia:

10.6in 1280x768
1.33GHz C2D
nVidia 8400M G
4GB RAM
1KG (2.2lb)
1.8" HDD

The specs are damn near perfect but the HDD is KILLING me. It's a crappy little 1.8" with no room to upgrade to.

Are there any other lappies out there with about the same specs but a 2.5" HDD?

Many Penryn Core Celeron / Pentinum can out perform U7600, take SU2300 for example.
So, you should able to find many CULV 11.6" laptop meet and exceed your expectation, with longer battery life.

Check out the Acer Aspire TimelineX 1830T. It isn't out yet but it should be roughly 3 pounds, 11.6" 1336x768 screen, low voltage core i5 etc with amazing battery life.

Thanks! Would a Core i5-520UM Processor (3M Cache, 1.06 GHz) really spank a Core 2 Duo U7700 (1.33GHz)? How much of a spanking?

From Passmark, 2-generation-old U7700 rated at 753, pretty much get "spank" from any duo core Penryn CULV ( Even SU2300 can outperform it)

Judging from current i3-M330, not even i5, gets 2034 point......
Do you really want to know how much of "spanking"? 😛

But the i3-M330 is at 2.13GHz. The i5 is only 1.06GHz... I know megahurtz isn't the end all be all, but damn, that's a 1GHz gap...

Take 2-generation before Merom core, say Pentinum 4 3.0Ghz, and compare to U7700's 1.3Ghz. Yeap! 1.3ghz perform 2X faster than old 3.0ghz.

I think we should start looking into # of Processing Die Transistors in the CPU and memory bandwidth it can handle instead "mhz".

Ex.
P4-class only got 42 million.
Merom got 291 million.
Penryn get 410 million.
Westmere i3/i5 get 384 million.
I believed Arrandale (i5/i7) has 774 millions.

Is this the model that's going to replace the 1810T that's becoming impossible to find anywhere?

I suppose the i5 ULV chips impending release is the reason that 11.6in machines with SU2300s, SU4100s, etc, are becoming extremely difficult to find at their MSRPs?

hp 2540p , hp 2740p - both very rugged and well built - for those outback adventures.

i've seen dual SSD (1.8 and 2.5") and SSD and 500gb models. plus it has this cool battery dock that sits under the laptop (2740p?) that extends battery double. note that some models can not fast charge both batteries since the brick is too small - some models that come with a larger charging brick can fast charge both batteries from dead to 90% in 90 minutes which is nice when you need to get something to eat, poop, then hit the road on that road-train for another 12 hours

The i5-520UM has turbo-boost up to about 1.8GHz. The bigger difference would be in the graphics speed of the HD graphics. The UM chips maximum GPU frequency is 166-500MHz, but will only hit the max speed if the whole chip is running below its TDP.

What about something like the Fujitsu P770 or the Lenovo X201 series?

While its true that i5-520UM can Turbo Boost to 1.86GHz, that's only true for single core mode.

Fortunately its 2 core speeds are also high, it can Turbo to 1.6GHz on the 1.06GHz, i5-520UM.
