I caught a commercial for what is basically an ODBII reader for under $70 (59.95 with a $9.00 MIR) that supposedly has a good number of functions to it. What I'm most interested is the fuel usage as my car doesn't have it (07 Mazda 6s).

Since my car has no fuel usage read out, would this be able to read it out? They have a "gauge estimator" by vehicle stating what gauges should be available on a particular vehicle, but of course, mine is not listed.

I'm not sure anyone here has actually used this particular product, but any thoughts? Seems pretty decent for the price if the claims are correct.

UltraGauge can display 75 possible gauges*. Gauges can easily be assigned to one of 6 positions on any page. The actually gauges available is vehicle dependent. If your vehicle supports any of the gauges listed, then the gauge will be available for display by UltraGauge.

Please note: UltraGauge currently does not support metric units.

UltraGauge currently does not support Manufacturer specific gauges such as Transmission temperature.

Potential available gauges include:

While currently not comprehensive, the ultra-gauge.com Gauge Availability Estimator can potential provide an estimate of the gauges available for your vehicle. The estimator can be found here: Gauge Availability Estimator

most likely yes, since i have a scangauge II that does instant mpg readout when my car doesn't have it (07 accord)

I'd ask on a mazda forum for your particular vehicle if that bit of OBDII is output (reader brand doesn't matter). Some vehicles will give a lot of the data on that list, others just a few bits.

Someone on Miata.net bought one and tried it a while back.. I think the biggest issue mentioned was a very slow update rate. The forum also picked up some new users praising the product at the same time. For what it's worth.

If you click on the pic of the scanner display mounted on the car windshield of their page, you can play around with a little simulator of the device so you can go into the simulated setup menu and see what gauges are available - "Instantaneous MPG" is one of them.

Also just throwing it out there, but they make bluetooth OBDII scanners as well that work in conjunction with your phone to display the info. Not sure how fast they update however. The Ultragauge you linked says it updates once every second for reference. That would be plenty fast IMO unless you're using it on a high performance race car.

i have a scangauge which works really well. gives me tons of info plus i can read and clear engine codes, comes in handy!

Those are around $160 or so right? I'm really thinking about picking one of these up, or something.

that might of been due to the baud rate of the miata's ECU as well.
