is there anything out there?

I know theres the New Asus Zen with the nvida 620 & 1080p, which I'm strongly considering.

But is there another laptop thats similar?

1600x900 with GeForce GT 640M LE

Note that there are different versions out there, some without the discrete graphics card.

There's probably more out there... Acer Timeline series often has a model or two with discrete graphics.

I was also going to mention the Sony Z Series, but the new one moved the GPU out into an external device.

How about the new Macbook Pro?

Right now strongly leaning towards the Asus Zen book with the nvidia 620. Its a little weak on the gaming side. But after thinking about how I used my notebooks I made the following list

1) screen
2) portability

3) gaming

After/still suffering with the terrible screen that my m11x (like all of them) have. I'm not interested with anything that has crappy viewing angles. Or poor quality.

The lenvo x230 is also close on the list but it lacks both resolution, and a seperate video card.

on the other hand, I'm going to have to weigh if the 620 is worth ~300 bucks over the hd4000.

What do you think about this one? This has good price, viewing angles, as well as gaming.

The sony s I linked is the biggest I'm willing to go to. And thats only because it does not weigh any more then my current m11x.


I only game on it once in a blue moon. But daily I use my laptop for watching work out videos. And its getting very old to have to adjust the screen every time the work out changes.

As for weight, while I dont travel often for work/vacation. I do make a few plane trips + road trips each year. And if I do travel for work, where I go, rarely do I travel direct. 2 flights is a good trip. 3 standard. And 4 connections happen as well. So I quickly learned, that a large/heavy laptop just plane sucks. esspically if you are fitting everything into carry ons.


So far I've narrowed it down to the the sony s (a bit to large, but weight wise is good) and the zenbook prime, but I might skip the gaming part of it because to me, its not worth paying 300+ dollars to get the 620m video card, I know it doubles gaming speed. but its just too much of a preimum.


There were alot of good ideas in this thread. Some just didn't pan out after I started digging into them.

The sony s13 still has typical tn display issues. The mac's, well resolution wise they have fallen behind.

It probably won't change your mind, but note that:
-620M is actually on par with HD 4000 in the full quad core Ivy Bridge chips. Both are ~50% faster in average compared to the ULV HD 4000. But of course average doesn't always represent what you use for.
-The extra $300 you pay for UX32VD over UX32A gives you not only 620M, but FullHD IPS display. The $300 cheaper one have a 1366x768 display. Notice there's also a UX31A, which features 1080p IPS display with HD 4000 graphics.

I was really liking the Sony VAIO S Series till I read what the battery life is like. 2.5 hours... not even going to concider them now as the only thing you can do to extend it is to get the slice which makes it heavier and adds even more to the price.

The life is that bad?

bla. I was looking at one of those as well. Its a bit larger then I want. But weight wise it was nice. Went to the store and picked up it and it was creepy have light it was for how big it is.

2.5 hour light might knock it off the list.
