Any differences between these two cables when using Ultra 160 SCSI devices?

Yes. Ultra 2 (and U2W) LVD was around before U160. U2 LVD cables are not rated to sync drives at 160 MB/sec. and they most likely will not. Buy cable rated for your drives.

don't forget you'll need an active terminator at the end of the cable when using U160 devices & the lvd cable!

Hmm, but when I use the Ultra2 cable it syncs with the host adapter at 160 during the bios loadup.

He didn't say it wouldn't work, just that it wasn't rated for it. YMMV.

So if I can use U2 cables and they sync at 160, then there shouldn't be any problems? No perfomance loss compared to an U160 rated cable?

It shouldn't make any difference at all. You can use an 80wire ATA66 cable at ATA133 without issues unless it is a really poor quality cable. Just because it isn't rated for it (if it was made before U160, clearly it couldn't be), doesn't mean it won't work.

Yeah, I know this is off-topic, but I've been posting to forums for far too long now to not know what this means, so it's time I asked. What the hell does this stand for?

AH HAH! That's what I figured. I was thinking "Your Results May Vary," but luckily someone a long time ago decided to switch results to mileage because... well... for no good freaking reason! Just to confuse people I'd reckon. That's ridiculous, but thank you. I'm done now. Sorry for bothering you all.

Pariah, Bozo1,

Thanks, that's what I figured, but wanted to make sure with agreement from other "experts".

Yep, I get excellent prices on SCSI cables simply because they were manufactured before U160 was released. Same cabling, different markings... sometimes for 10 bucks a cable new with terminator.

Yeah it's ridiculous what adaptec charges for their U160 rated cables for, I'm just using a same set but rated at Ultra2, but they seem to sync at 160 with the card and all drive benches were the same with either cables.
