ULTRA160 vs ULTRA WIDE? WTF?

k im startin to hate scsi cuz its so friggin complicated :| :confused:

what is the difference between ultra160 scsi and ultra-wide scsi?

thx for any inputs!

IS ULTRA160 backward compatible with scsi3? can i use a scsi 3 device on a u160 controller?

Most normal commercial LVD SCSI controllers (LVD being the standard for U2W and U160 SCSI) have a seperate port that can accept normal Fast/Ultra/Wide devices. This is because the use of a UltraWide device on a LVD channel would automatically force the whole channel to operate on the UltraWide speed level to maintain compatibility, so the seperate Fast/Ultra/Wide port/channel is given to stop that happening.

So yes, its all compatible but you can compromise speed if you connect it all up wrong.
