I know it doesn't have cable for PCIe and it's 20 pins but is $40 still a steal?
Anyone know if the Radeon X800 PCIe need a power cable from the psu?

They're 50/50. Sometimes they're fine, but other times they suck. Most people here (including myself) will tell you that they suck. But seriously, some units, if you get lucky, are good.

they suck as in performance or manufacturing defective?

I've read lots of bad stuff about the Ultra X-Connect but haven't heard anything about the X-Finity. The PSU itself might be of better quality than the X-Connect, but I don't know about the rest (customer service etc)
