I've got the same power supply and am in the middle of a PC build. I pickup up the EVGA 7800GT and SLI mobo deal and hopefully I won't have any issues running the system with this PS which only has the native 20-pin ATX.

If it works out...I'll pick up another one of these PS.

I looked at the $40 rebate in pdf format and this is what it says,

In order to receive your rebate you must purchase an
eligible Ultra product listed on this form between
June 22, 2005 - July 31, 2005.

The dates are wrong, I think its a good buy if the rebates come through, but the dates being wrong on this rebate worries me.

Both rebates can be applied for online. Go to www.onrebate.com and fill in the rebate online. offer numbers for both rebates are "UL-1555" and "UL-1556".

I just bought at Frys yesterday and filled em out last night.

Very good deal on a PS if the rebates come through.

by the way, one rebate requires the original ups and the other requires a copy. Also no need to attach a serial number even though there is a place for it on their print out form it's not required on either rebate.. dont even know if these PS have serials..

I've heard good and bad about these units, but the idea seemed too cool for me to pass up, so I ordered one last week. Had the same rebate problems as above, but I called, and they emailed the correct forms to me. It was heavy, and seemed high quality, but...plugged it in, and it was a no go. Bright flash from inside and then poof. I'm also a little concerned because the SATA power plugs don't fit very snugly into my WD hard drives. I really want to like this P/S, because it's a great idea, but I'm a little nervous. Replacement is on it's way. Outpost seems to have good customer service, if nothing else. I have my fingers crossed.

Seems like you have a great system build, but if I were you I wouldn't have bought this PSU at all. The quality is pretty bad and that is why it is so cheap. Read around on forums and you will see what I am talking about. (Junky Power Supply).

As ncage said, might be some drugs involved here. ;) jk Lets put it this way, I know many professional builders who wont go near these even if they were free. There is a reason frys/outpost unloads them for dirt cheap every week. It is a great price though, I can see how its tempting. :)

I'm using this PS (Ultra 500 Watt with 34A on the 12-volt rail) and should have my new PC assembled by next Sunday. I'll report back how this PS is performing.

My system will be fully loaded to include an Antec 1000AMG case; A64 3000+ retail (hopefully, OC'd to ~2.4); 2GBs (2 sticks in dual channel) of Patriot RAM (CAS 2 and hopefully with tight timings); a EVGA 7800GT with the EVGA SLI mobo (only 1 video card for now); 2 Optical Drives (newer models of Lite-On DVD-ROM and an NEC DVD-RW); 3 HDs (2 WD 160GBs in RAID and 1 other HD of as yet undecided size/brand); a Hauppaug WinTV-PVR 150 Tuner/Capture Card; an Audigy 2 ZS Platium sound card; 5 LED Case Fans (and a UV light which I still need to order) with a 4 fan controller; an internal 9-in-1 Card Reader, and a floppy drive.

In other words...my somewhat large case will be PACKED (i.e., NO empty bays) and this PS will be under full load. I will leave several of the aforementioned components "unconnected" (sound card, tv tuner/capture card, and DVD-RW) until I make sure the mobo, video card, PS and RAM are "working" BEFORE I tax the whole system by installing all the components.

I have to order 3 parts on Monday (i.e., my credit card cycle ends today;)) to include: CPU (most likely will get the A64 3000+ with retail HSFl from Newegg for $146 shipped); the UV light (most likely from SVC.com); and a hard drive (most likely a ~100 GBer from WD or Maxtor).

IF this PS can handle the above system, I believe the PS should be able to handle 99% of the system out there. In case anyone is interested...just about EVERY component is RETAIL and the system cost me ~$1,275.00 (been buying components since late March 2005).

More later,

Bud

I recall from the reviews I read back in March/April 2005 that this PS is a little on the noisy side (not terribly loud though) because I believe the fans run full speed all the time.

It cost me 77$ (27$ after rebate) after tax and shipping, but damn, I couldn't resist!
edit: When filling the rebates, I filled the first one (40$) and confirmed it on the OnRebate website and everything's fine. But when I opened the other one, it turned out to be the exact same document with 40$, so how am I supposed to claim the 10$ one?
edit2: problem fixed, here's the working link

Got the package yesterday. The PSU is working perfectly (mobo not toasted) and it's not loud (for me). I got a couple questions though. Which UPC code should I send for the rebates, the one on the product package, or the one on the shipping package? (the product package is the one inside the shipping package). And how can I send the UPC code for 2 seperate rebates? Should I copy it (via computer)?

Any personal experience with this power supply?

I doubt it. While Ultra may not be THE best, there's HELL of a lot worse out there.

Full Review

And for the price - it can't be beat.

We have lift off Houston...I've partially got my system up and running to include the following: A64 3000+ retail (stock settings); 2GBs (2 sticks in dual channel) of Patriot RAM (CAS 2 and somewhat tight timings and 1T); a EVGA 7800GT with the EVGA SLI mobo (only 1 video card for now); UPDATE 2 Optical Drive (NEC DVD-RW Mod. 3540a and a LiteOn DVD-ROM); 2 HDs (2 WD 160GBs; 5 LED Case Fans with a 4 fan controller; and a floppy drive.

The Ultra-X Connect 500 Watt PS I have is fairly quiet. The only beef I have is the cable end going into my NEC 3540A is kinda loose (i.e., it comes out with a very, very slight pull). I can surely live with it. And the ATX PS cable is REALLY stiff (I don't know if I'd want to try using this PS in a small case UNLESS the ATX connector on the mobo was a bit further from the PS unit itself). My case is the Antec 1000AMG which is fairly large. I actually had a smaller case which came with the Ultra PS, but I decided to buy the Antec case because 1 of the reviews I read suggested the stiff ATX cable could be a problem in a small case.

The system POSTs and I'm going to bed. I'll report back later this weekend after I get the rest of my components and the OS installed.

Regards,

Bud
