Ultra X-Connect 500W failed me twice in a row!

Is this typical? I bought one off FS/FT, which soon failed. I RMAed it, and that lasted about a month until it died. Basically, when I press the power button, the CPU fan and any other case fans moves about 1/2", then stops. No beeps or anything else. Swapped the PSU with a RaidMax for the meantime and everything is back to normal.

I didn't have any problems with mine when I had it... but I've heard stories... typical, unfortunately.

RMA it, sell it on eBay, and get an Enermax, Antec, Seasonic, OCZ Modstream, etc.

I considered getting this exact same PSU, until the guys on this board told me that they weren't that good. It looks like they were right! Sorry to hear about the issues though.

Ok...this isn't entertaining since I am FINALLY going to be up and running today. The first FedEx guy just dropped off my BFG 7800gtx and AS5...now I'm waiting for the 20-24ppin ATX cord from the FedEx Ground Driver...

How bad ARE these X-Connect power supplies?

One on line review said this about it: "Once there were only two types of power supplies for computers good ones and crap. Now there is a third type - crap that glows." First it wouldn't even power up with over a half-power load on it. And when they tried to get full power out of it, it blew up. Stay away from ULTRA products, period!

. Regular ATers should know enough by now to stay away from anything that has to do with Tiger Direct...

If you're looking for quality, try Enermax EG565 535w psu, which supports dual xeon and SLi. Of course, all depends on your budget.

Where was that 'ultimate PSU' posting?

It was REALLY helpful... I guess the Ultra PSUs are really some generic Asian company's PSUs that are just rebranded and sold as Ultra's.

I wish I could find that posting :)

Rebranded Powermax(crap), they work fine until they die, then they usually take some componets with them.

Yea, its typical. Ultra makes a cool "looking" PSU but that is all. The cables are great and the boxes are cool, but not the guts. Same thing here. The fan moves 1/2 an inch and then eventually it just stops. This after only two days of use.

Ultra support is not to be seen. They sent no reply after a week.

So, what do you do? Here is what I did. I bought a new Thermaltake 500 W PSU and had a guy wire the front panel of the X-Connect box to my new Thermaltake PSU and man it works like a dream. In 30 minutes he had it wired and working. Now my machine looks cool and I know it isn't going to blow up like the X-Connect cheapo guts that were there before. I am a a faithful user of Thermaltake because their stuff works. None of my Thermaltake stuff has ever broken. It always gets upgraded before it ever quits! Now, I have those cool UV cables coming out of my Thermaltake PSU. It rocks!

Don't buy an X-Connect PSU except to get the front panel and cables. Throw the rest in the garbage. Not a worthy product and the tech support is not to be found.

Modding... it seems to be the only way to get what you want.

Well I got mine for $30, pretty cheap, so I just got one. It's not being stressed and I've only had it a week and a half but no problems at all. In fact, it's awesome for me.

Sorry to here that:(

Damn those are shatty PS's, I've seen no less than 10 of those die. And they usually take stuff with them when they go.
