k here's my situation

a computer at home behind a Linksys WRT54G running the Ultra VNC server, i port forwarded ports 5800 and 5900 to the LAN IP of that computer. I'm trying to run Ultra VNC viewer from my work computer and it cant connect... is there anythign else i should know?

BTW, i'm on a static IP plan with my ISP so i'm using that IP when i specify an IP for the VNC viewer.

any help is appreciated.

Stupid question...but do you have the server running on the PC you want to remote control?

When installing, I always make sure to check the "start as a service" choice.

yeah, i have it running

Also,

If you are running from work, your IT admin may have restricted outbound traffic on the firewall preventing you from connecting to your home PC.

If your work computer has a software firewall on it you have to open the ports there too.

You didn't say what OS you were running, so if this doesn't apply please disregard:
if you already installed XP SP2 you need to disable the Windows Firewall or at least allow VNC as an exception. I've seen dozens of users get all frustrated by MS latest security "feature."

ok, it works in my intranet, so i can type 192.168.1.103 on another computer on my router with the viewer and then i can remote control, but i can't seem to get into it through a computer outside my intranet... am i forwarding the ports wrong??

all i did was forward ports 5800 and 5900 to 192.168.1.103 in my linksys router...

any help? thanx.

OK you know that your VNC software works.

If you have software Firewall open ports 5800 and 5900 to the Internet. Most Firewalls has a separate menu fro Intranet and Internet port opening.

Do the same in the Router, and make sure that the ports are not directed to another computer on your LAN. Then check from the outside (it can not be checked from your LAN).

Who ever checks it for you have to open his Firewall Router's ports as well.
