Ultra Premium vodka

So we are out for a drink last night with some friends and at the bar they are sampling shots of drinks made out of Bu Tay ultra premium vodka . being passed out by a couple of Bu-Tay girls.

drinks taste ok, but hell, I cant tell the difference between ultra premium, premium or regular vodka.

So is this just a ploy to get you to pay more for a drink or bottle? Or is there an actual quality/taste difference and I cant tell?

True, though I can certainly tell the difference between Smirnoff (aka firey oily death) and Chopin.

Agreed. We had a thread about this before. Anything in the "top shelf" has the same smoothness but there might be subtle taste differences.

PSA: Smirnoff is NOT "top shelf"!

EDIT: ACK! BAD TYPO!!!

I thought "Premium" vodka was just marketing but I bought a small bottle of Chopin off the suggestions here in the last vodka thread, and man it is a world of difference drinking it straight. Before Chopin a shot of vodka for me was usually skyy or smirnoff, not pleasant. But Chopin has this rich backend earthy flavor, and much smoother than the others. Delicious.

I'm slightly particular about vodka. Not because I like it, but these days when I drink it if it's not certain stuff I'll either throw it up right away or have a tough time keeping it down.

But if it's Smirnoff, Goose, Stoli, or even Absolut I can drink it. If it's Skyy, or any of the lower ends I just can't take the stuff. My friends even pulled a test on me to see if I was serious a couple of weeks after telling them. The ol' Zelko in the Goose bottle. Took the one shot (my first shot of the night) and wound up throwing it up on his table.

For $12 for 750ml, I haven't found anything better than Monopolowa.

It's one of the very few potato vodkas still available. Smooth as buttah.

Premium vodka is a waste only if you mix it. You should drink it straight (and freezing cold).

And never ever think you can use the Brita filter trick on premium vodka to make it "uber-premium"--you actually filter out the flavor of the mash.

My current favorites are Turi (Estonian chicks FTW) and Van Gogh, with Grey Goose and Stoli as effective "available everywhere" standbys.

I usually drink the Goose. I recently bought a bottle of Ciroc and have only done one shot. And for some reason that night, vodka was nauseating me. Even the Goose made me sickened. Ciroc is supposed to be some really good stuff, so I don't know what hit me there. 42 Below always seemed like a neat vodka I'd like to try. It's made in New Zealand 42 degrees below the equator in a location that is rated as having the highest air and water purity in the world. I've never been able to find it, but I want to try it out.

Negative. And yes I've had my share of Tito's. At $18 a bottle Tito's can't match some of the $12 stuff I've been buying(Monopolowa).

Warning: clicking on the above link will cause sudden and overwhelming urges to play Sonic the Hedgehog... what's up with the music? 😛

Ugly bottle design but sounds like a good concept... I'd try it.

QFT. I had some of this last year on someones suggestion (might have been ElFenix, can't remember) - when I went for a taste of it, I ended up drinking about half the bottle 😱 Really good stuff

I'm at work and my laptop is on mute, didn't even hear the music. Damn this thread and the scotch thread from a few days ago are gonna cause me to spend all my money on alcohol this month.

I think that could be marketing. I like the taste of Chopin and Zyr, myself. I'm not exactly a quality taste tester, but I think you can tell the difference between Chopin and say, Absolut.

[edit] Is it me or are they trying to play off the word, "booty"?

Marketing. It's freaking ethanol plus some impurities. So all this talk about "best taste" comes down to who has the best tasting impurities. Vodka is so strong anyway, it hardly matters after a couple drinks.
