Ultra or GT

I will be upgrading my videocard real soon. I've just been wondering. Is the Ultra that much better than the GT? PCI-E. I don't have sli either. And is it worth going up from a 6600 non gt?

Neither. Personally I wouldnt buy anything since the next gens are less than 6 months away. At the most i'd buy a 6600GT

get the gt. The ultra is faster but ot by much. The jump from 6600 to 6800gt is going to be big but onlyu at high reslutions with aa/af The gt should keep you happy for some time. However, like hippotautamus said. I would get a x800xl since for PCI-E it is the best bang for the buck 🙂

I take the X800 XL over the 6800 series right now. The XL is faster than the 6600GT, cost much less than the 6800GT/Ultras, chances of OCing are pretty good. And the last reason is that teh next gen vid cards are less than 6 months away. Odds are you'll have a nasty case of buyer's remorse right after Computex.

I think comparing the XL to the 6800GT is a farce, and not applicable in this situation.

If the choices are GT and Ultra, go with the GT.

Explain. It offers 95% of the 6800GT's performance at a lower price point, especially in the PCIe segment. You can find them for 270 pretty easily, cheapest PCIe GT I've seen was 349 after a mail in rebate. It was 370 before that.

As far as performance, even Anand only gave the nod to the x800XL because of price.

Figured I'd toss in Newegg's price for the XL:

Wow...that's a $20 difference...there goes my checking account.

Thank you to the FUDbuster. I appreciate the links and most of all appreciate ending threads of exaggerated claims.

I am so sick of fanboys repeating their drivvel so frequently they actually begin to believe it themselves.....

It's SPECS folks........ not who yells the loudest

(to the OP:

I think you'd be happy enough with the GT that you would be glad you didn't spring for an ultra)
