You use 'FireWire' or what Sony calls 'I.Link' or "IEEE1934" to give it's 'full' name.

Get a FireWire cable. Get a Firewire Card or your motherboard may have it already.

Then connect the camcorder to your cable and the other end to the firewire card. Then you need some 'capture' software. Any will do off the net. Then you use that to capture it.

if the camera doesnt not have firewire or a usb plug-in, you're out of luck unless you have a tv tuner card and a microMV tape to vhs adapter. i made a video about 5 months 4-5 months ago for my government class and we were using a camcorder without firewire or usb. luckily, my family is pretty techy, so we have a ton of hardware to make uploading them possible. even so, i had a really difficult time in getting it into the PC so i can video edit. if you need more help, i'm only a pm away. :)

You need firewire on ur PC, and ur camera. Ull also need a firewire cord (obviously). Once connected to your computer, u can capture the footage on Windows movie maker. I personally use Adobe Premiere Pro for all my video capturing and editing needs.

oh thanks a bunch guys, and I suppose I can use the USB for transfering too right? coz my friend's pc doesn't have a firewire connector. and what movie-capturing software would you guys recommend? I found a few from download.com like "PowerDirector 3.0" and "Image DV." how about Microsoft's own movie maker?

My freind uploads the video by plugging it into the usb port and then it shows up as a removeable drive in My Computer. THen he just copies the video to his hard drive. I don't think it is a Sony IP1 but it is some type of sony
