Ultra MicroFly Blue mATX Cube Case

Seems like a pretty good deal, but the case is 15x11.5" - that's only 5 inches shorter than my slk2650. Kinda makes me wonder if that's even worth losing 2-3 extra expansion slots, plenty of room work with, and decent airflow, not to mention limited heatsink options.

This is the deal I've been waiting for. In for one! Thanks, OP.

Note to self - stop coming to Hot Deals... keep spending money.

God that's so tempting to stuff my newest sempron utility rig into. I wish they had that sucker in the store when I was there today. Stupid Fry's B&M being seperate entities from the website.

I just got mine in today. Man, with all these Outpost/Fry's deals, the DHL delivery guy asked if I wanted to have a signature on file so that he can do ninja deliveries (scan, drop, ring bell, run away). I told him no. If it's a $50 heavy case, no biggie, but if it's a few hundred dollars worth of CPUs or RAM in a small, lightweight box, heck no. Don't want to risk it.

The case is pretty decent and about what I expected. I've checked out other people's X-Qpack cases before so knew what to expect, however I've never took one apart and held the parts. Here are my quick thoughts:

The handle is really weak. I probably would never carry it by that flimsy excuse of a !#$%. The aluminum is pretty thin and the whole case is quite flexible (though not as much as handle). If other cases I've worked with are any guide, it should become more rigid after parts are bolted in. A rough estimate of space between a "standard" size PSU of around 140-150mm depth and a new Toshiba/Samsung DVDRW drive I got in shows about 2½" between the two, which is plenty. Any HSF not too much taller than retail box should fit the case fine. Tower heatpipe HSFs probably won't fit without mods. One such mod is to cut one of the HDD supports that extends over the motherboard. That may work if the CPU location isn't too far to the front, and you'd have to finish installing it with the board in the case. The blue color is consistent with other Ultra cases, meaning it is a dark, dusky blue. They call it "liquid gloss blue" but whatever. It wasn't that shiney to my eyes.

Thanks for the info... I'm surprised about the flimsiness. I have the Ultra Wizard for my desktop (considering getting this for a friend) and it's a solid case. Can anyone comment on how this one compares.

BTW, for those interested in having a standard ATX-sized PSU in this case, this Lite-ON is a good way to go. It's much shorter than the standard sized dvd-drive. There are others out there too, but this one comes to mind. OOS from the egg right now, but you can get it other places, no doubt.

Many DVDRW drive brands are now quite short including the LiteOn you mentioned, the Samsung/Toshiba that I mentioned, LG, Sony, Pioneer... Also, this case is deeper than the X-Qpack, so there isn't as much of a problem.

The Ultra Wizard (I have one also from a Radio Shack deal) is one heavy duty mofo. You can use a Wizard as a stool if you want. The UltraFly will not hold your weight, or even a small fraction of it. Not only is it aluminum versus steel it is also thinner metal, especially the side/top panels. Put it this way, the whole case probably weighs about the same as one side panel of the Wizard.
