Ultra low volatage processor performance question

Does the user experience a significant performance hit from the low clock speeds on Intel's line of ultra-low voltage dual cores ( ex 1.3ghz on SU7300 ) compared to their T series? I'm not talking about massively processor-heavy tasks like HD AVC encoding or video post-production. I'm thinking more along the lines of ordinary multitasking, photoshop CS4, and decent performance on older games.

Depends. I can have music, email, multiple web browsers and a Java IDE open just fine. So most normal operation is not impacted.

Photoshop will certainly be impacted with large images and/or process intensive plugins and whatnot.

Games still tend to be impeded by GPU more than CPU, as the AT review of the UL80vt shows. However, the OC'd SU7300 definitely improves experience in that same review.

Yeah you'll be ok with one of those, but they are a bit expensive... I've always found it a bit odd how much more those CULV laptops cost than "average" laptops, and how much speed they're lacking in comparison. In my opinion the only reason to go with one would be if you're really really concerned with battery life. Laptops don't really draw a ton of power anyway, so getting a CULV one as opposed to a regular one wouldn't really help you save the environment very much...

I'd go for one of those newer Turion II machines, or a C2D machine with a weaker GeForce or Radeon card for the same price... just my opinion 🙂
