My wife played with a Macbook air the other day and fell in love. Any PC equivilent that cost under 1K? Pefer 13" or above..

Thanks for any suggestions..

I know you said PC equiv, but she fell in love with the Air...

Refurbished MacBook Air 1.86 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Originally released October 2010
13.3-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display
2GB memory
128GB flash storage
NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics
FaceTime camera

$999.00 from the apple store. Ive owned THIS laptop, it is a very nice machine... VERY nice for portability. Fits, literally, in a notebook (those leather zip up folder organizers) with room for a notebook as well as pens, papers, etc.

You can get an 11" for even less, probably Sub $800. Just depends how much portability you want vs screen size, etc.

Take a look at the Dell Vostro V131. Starting price is $499 for a Celeron (Sandy Bridge based!!!).

13.3" 1366x768 LCD
3.5 pounds
very thin

I have a Dell Latitude 13 which is essentially the same chassis, and I really dig the form factor. It was based originally on the Dell Adamo, a $2000 high end notebook from a few years back.

I am absolutely positive I have seen Air like computers with windows, cheaper and more powerful and even thinner. But I can't for the life of me recall what they are called or who makes them.

Asus UL20FT if your wife is fine with ULV CPU. I have Acer 1830T because it was cheaper, but given the the same price I probably would have gone with UL20FT. 11" is a little small for 1366x768 resolution, but 12" is the sweet spot and Asus should be sturdier.

They run from $400-470 depending on configuration.

The Samsung 9 series is as close as it gets at the moment, but that's over $1000.

The ASUS UX21 should be coming out in September (I believe) and is supposed to be under $1000.

Did your wife fall in love with the MBAir form-factor or with playing with the on-screen Apple stuff?

considering he is asking for a PC with a similar form factor I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt / credit and assume he checked with her that is what she wants, and that she is in love with the form factor not the OS.

I don't take any such thing for granted, and neither should anyone else. Let him answer.

I'd have to say it was for 3 reasons: first weight, then beautiful display, then speed to "turn on"..

We hated our Iphones so it left a bad taste in our mouth for any apple products. Will never own a Dell either for the same reason.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I played with the Samsung series 9, kind of a let down.
Hated all the Toshiba's
Sonys were insanely expensive.
Really liked a Lenova I seen at Fry's, headed back this weekend to look again.

Lenovo laptops are awesome - go check out the 12.5" ThinkPad x220, not the x220i version. You'll probably love it all the more if you can customize it and get the "Premium HD" screen--it's a gorgeously colorful IPS panel, that are so rare on laptops these days. I think Lenovo is having a web-special/sale on then and you could probably google around a coupon to save even more!

That's the one I was set on buying, just before I bought my MacBook Pro.

Good luck!
