Looking for a new rig which will be used for... well everything really. No cap on cost. Just looking for the ultra super high end top rig with LOTS of cpu power, LOTS of GPU power and LOTS of fast storage. Recommendations?

Bad troll! No cookie!

1) Go to newegg
2) Find the most expensive Intel processor
3) Find the most expensive motherboard for that intel processor
4) Buy as many of those intel processors as there are sockets on the board
5) Buy the board

You have your self uber ultra super extreme high top end right there

Dual Xeon? LOL, thats not ultra high top end, this is ultra high top end.
Pain to build it yourself, though. I don't often recommend buying prebuilt, but this might be an exception. Sun can hook you up. The case is better looking than what a lot of other boutiques are selling, too.

If you actually want a serious answer, go over to General Hardware and answer the questionnaire in the sticky.

Fair enough. The best single threaded performance machine money can buy. Even the top 1 from supercomputers won't do that.

Why do you need it though?

3960x
x79 Motherboard
3x 670 SLI
Crucial M4 512GB SSD x 2 Raid 0

I think this is all you need to be considered "super high end"

There comes a point when wasting money is, wasting money. I don't like to waste money, and feel nobody else should.

I can't recommend anyone SLI 680's over 670's for example. Just not worth the extra cost.

He asked for ultra high end but you give him 1600 memory?

Not only that, but a 3930K (3960X), 670/680 (690), and SATA drives (PCIe revodrives, for example).

Is this an genuine thread asking for advice? Ultra high end desktop or server? Define high end, because people can blow a lot of money without their build making any sense, like buying a 3960X over a 3930K "just cuz". Or is this just another troll thread from a newly registered member?

Samsung 1600MHz memory overclocks to 2133MHz

Which is still pretty far from what's considered high end now.

Possible. Especially when he says that he needs something that even the fastest supercomputer in the world can not handle. But still has not said what for.

Yea, look at his post history. He obviously knows a little something, but wants his hand held here for some mystical ultra top super duper platinum diamond crusted supercomputer build lol, sure bud 🙄

Meh, or just some rich dude showing off.

"Real" rich people don't need to show off on internet forums. And the few that do, supply pics of their uber machines. 🙂

Anyone can say "money is no object", as they type their post on a 7 year old P4 rig.

Goes to show that most people on these forums still can not get over the "budget" aspect of a PC.

I tried using a budget but it didn't quite work out for me.

Budgets are for busting! 😀

Add in:
Quad SLI
MB & RAM water cooling
GPU water cooling
CPU water cooling

Is it safe to say a 3770K is the fastest single threaded processor ever made even when we leave the x86 world? I thought Power7 could be a contender, but it looks not so great after all.

That said if I was building a money-is-no-object-system I wouldn't worry so much about the processor. I would design a cooling system where assorted supermodels pour Bose-Einstein Condensates.... no... where assorted supermodels throw liquid H2O and shampoos all around the room. Some of it might land on my processor to cool it down but generally it just makes a mess all over us.

to whom?

seriously, No one in the history of the computer hobby has ever been able to show off to, impress, or get laid with their hardware. :\

I've never been impressed by anyone's computer, all they've really done is throw some money down, and tightened a few screws,, real impressive.... please....:hmm:
