I'm not looking for those gigapixel outer space images, but I would like stuff > 3000x2000, for example. Nature, buildings, people, it's all good. Anybody know any links?

You should see the HiRISE pictures from the Mars Reconaissance Orbiter. One recent image:

Most are only grayscale though.

I think they're hosted on servers operated by The University of Arizona. I think they hope that most people just download the browse-images, or else use their image viewer page, which only downloads certain portions of the image, selected by the user on a smaller zoomed-out version.
 
Huh....2592 x 1600 is 5MP (my camera's max resolution). Images are easily 2-3 MB in Jpeg!

Would be cool to find some.....
