Ultra ATA IDE cable

I am upgrading a system and adding a new faster HD. I have a spare 80 pin IDE cable that says on it Ultra ATA 66, that does not have a slave connector on it. The new HD is an Ultra ATA 133. The pins are the same.

Is this cable going to affect the HD speed?

Can this cable be used on the new HD?

Should I buy a new cable?

Would it be better to have the new HD (which will be the system drive "C") connected as a master on this cable on IDE2 or as a slave on cable IDE1? Currently there is only one cable connected to IDE1 and the HD is the slave on that cable.

Don't cross-post, please. Thread in Computer Help remains open.

cables the same after ata33.
new cable unnecessary. pins were always the same. the newer cable just had more ground wires.

I recieved this information from another poster . . .

it'll limit the drive speed and capabilities to the old standard. if you bought the drive new, they come with the correct cable.

This will be a new HD, but it may not come with the cable. Does buying an online product marked OEM come with a cable? If it doesnt come with a cable, will it work or not using this other cable marker ATA66?

You shouldn't be making two different threads about the same issue.

You made one in Computer Help and one in General Hardware.

I answered in your other thread, so please check it out.

two threads? ban!

here's a clue buddy, if you have to ask questions about such simple things, don't think you can to be clever about it.

I posted different messages about the same thing in only two different groups being not sure which group would be best. Turns out I got 4 different answers. If its so simple, then everyone should have answered the same . . No?

You don't need to be rude about it.

Thanks for your help though.

well the thing is multiple posting on the same topic is rude to the community.
