I ordered the Blue Aluminus from Tigerdirect.com. This case came with a 550W modular Ultra X2 PSU. The Front USB panel is a box that can be installed in 5.25 or 3.5 bay. I have it in the 5.25 right now, I may change that. Really what things do you need to fill the 3.5 bay? Floppy or Media card reader?

It seems well constructed, however the Quick install 5.25 rails are plastic... May be a problem if you are not gentle with them.

The case is LARGE!!! I can see this being a great low price tower for those who like to have every bay filled. Both side panels are removable and that makes for easy cable management. You can even hide the HD connections in the back! Just remember to unhook them before pulling the rail out, unless you have tons of slack.

The front door seems a little sticky when opening both the drive access and the full panel. Hope this is not too big of an issue. I really wont open the whole door that often so not a problem for me. The color match of the Plastic and Aluminum is very good. even if this is in a showcase area, you will not see a tone difference. The MoBo tray is easy to remove, and has nice handles on each side.

The CPU vent on clear side panel has an adjustable cone on it, so if you have to slide it out for stock cooling... Maybe this hole can be replaced with an 80mm fan?? I would like that even better.

Here are some pictures of the rig with the PSU and USB panel installed. I left the panels off to let everyone see the inside better.

Completely done with this case and build and here it is:

Inside

Air flow is no problem, the case is so big that I have tons of room inside for my 2 yate loons to flow air that comes out cold in the back, now if I had 4 Harddrives that may be different

Whole build and monitor

The noise is probably my only issue, now I do have a 1900xt that sounds like a vacum when gaming, but it really doesnt bother me when I have the bass up and the speakers loud. Maybe if I had the window side away from me where then I would hear less, but whats the point you know, unless you are the type that has to work in dead silence.

Side panel on

Another view of desktop

Office with both old and new running side by side

So you that complain about the super thin metal, what the hell are you doing with it? Throwing it around the room??? I have built it and set it on my desk the only way it will get damaged or bend is if I kick it off the desk or a Tornado hits my house, in that case I will get all kinds of new stuff!!! ;)

Overall it is a big case to work with and it makes it easy to build for a first timer in my honest opinion.

ultra is making some neat stuff these days. that looks like it's an advancement of the old chieftec dragon style case. i like how the whole front end swings open like that. also i wouldn't worry about the drive rails, the dragon and it's 50 million clones all had them and i never had an issue.

It's VERY THIN aluminum. Not like a Lian-Li.

I have one of each.

The Aluminus is my main rig. Much to my surprise, you think it's like tissue paper when you first pull it out of the box, but then when you build it it feels VERY solid.

i had an ultra microfly for about 2 days. the aluminum on that is like paper, you can bend it easily with your fingers. not sure how the aluminum is compared to that tho.

Yes it is thin and does not weigh much. When i pulled it out of the box it looked like someone kicked the edge of the box and it bent the top edge on the solid side panel. Instead of going through the hassle of returning it, I bent it back using 2 fingers!!! So I guess dont try to drop kick your case and will not bend.

I wish Ultra had popped for a new bezel design - that Dragon style seems to have been around for at least 20 years now... :D Thin metal too - so sad.

i just recieved my Ultra Aluminus case

here's some pics:

Front View
Side View
Another Side View

its a pretty good case...the only thin parts are the case doors the rest seems very sturdy, the mobo tray is a plus very good and solid...5 1/4, 3 1/2, tool less bays very solid, the 120mm fans (front and rear) are good makes the case quiet...there plenty of holes to move cables thru...like the powerbutton/reset switch cables, front usb cables, front fan cables...etc

two things that i dindnt like about the case was the thin case doors, and the fingerprints!!! so many fingerprints hard to keep this huge case shiny...but overall i would say its a well worth case as of yet...

Update: one more thing that i find annoying is the the front bay door, its a nice feature but when i close my door it hits the button of the cd rom drive and the drive opens....but its not so bad because when my drive opens it cant open anymore than maybe 1/2 inch and it closes back...which isnt so bad

I love "looking" at mine, as I am about to abort the retrofiting my Dell 4700 motherboard in my plain aluminum colored (silver plastic and aluminum panels) Ultra Aluminus. The i/o wiring is a shot in the dark and I don't want to play russian roulette with this MB. Will probably build this one up from scratch.

I'm really not a "door guy".
Can the door on the Ultra case be removed easily?
Does it look horrible without the door?

I picked one up recently as well. It was cheap ($22 after $50MIR) and I wanted to sell my lianli pc65b in anticipation of buying a new lianli case that won't be out for several months.

Is it a step down from my pc65b? Yes, but not as much as I had expected. The overall fit&finish seems good and it definitely feels "sturdier" once you have components installed.

Yeah, ordered this also from Tiger. For $129.99 for (silver) case and psp, with $30 rebate, can't go wrong!?!

It will serve as basis for my first ever build. Not the prettiest, but not too shabby and lots o room.

Now to figure out the mobo (975 v 965, intel v. asus/gigabyte). Your's looks nice, any tips on installs?

It is indeed extremely thin aluminum. That's what turns me off to that case. It's actually thinner metal than in a steel case despite the fact that aluminum is a weaker metal and needs to be thicker to attain the same strength.

Does this case have a filter in front? I like how they covered up the top drive bays with that aluminum panel that says Ultra on it - much nicer looking than seeing the sides of the drives.

i guess those are the quality differences between ultra and other lian li or other aluminum cases
