Ultra Aluminus Custom Build

Cheex

Diamond Member
I think I'm getting better at cable management (provided that the case in question actually helps the situation).

I did a custom build for a system unit only over the weekend for a client with the following specs:

CASE: Ultra Aluminus (full tower ATX)
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz Black Edition
RAM: Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2-800
PSU: Corsair CMPSU-620HX
VGA: EVGA GeForce 9600GT Superclocked
HDD: Western Digital 120GB (reused)
HSF: Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro
ODD: ASUS DVD-ROM Drive
ODD: Samsung 20X DVD Burner
FANS: 2 x Thermaltake 120mm (intake, exhaust)

After building it, I successfully overclocked it to 3GHz stable on stock voltage.

I'm very proud of this build...

Let me know what you think.

😀

Very slick and neat!! The case looks very roomy. I don't like cases with doors on them personally, but that's just me. I took the front door off of my case as soon as it came out of the new box.

Very nice job though! Congrats!

Thanks.

Too bad I'll have to drill out my Antec 900 to get it this neat.
Anyway, before doing that, I'll just get myself a modular PSU...😛

My last case had a door on it but I survived...😛

As for now....I'm loving my 900.

he did an extraordinary job ...

in contrast ... well, let's just say there is no comparison to my little over-stuffed mess
:Q

it surprises me that mine works at all; amazing it so well in a small Aspire X-gamer
- it is SO tight in places there is about 1mm tolerance ... yet airflow is OK and case temps are decent; CPU and GPU temps are excellent.
-- How tight? The case side-fan is on the outside of my case 😛

Thanks.

I'm sure that my client will be very happy. My father dropped it off today.
I should be getting some feedback from the client tonight.

Thats a good job you did there! I want to re wire... but I think I am done for about 6 months messing around with my comp.

I absolutely LOVED that case when I had it, but over a year or so I kinda destroyed it by "modding" it. I wish mine looked half as nice as yours does. Very nice job.

ok guys, I have a confession to make...

I am a sloppy cable guy. I have cables all over my case. it's amazing that I have any airflow at all. Also, it's an antec 900 so anybody can walk by (including my DAUGHTER) and see what a crappy cabler I am. I hereby vow to fix my cable mess when I upgrade to the Q9450. Somebody remind me when they're out, however, since I'm going on a 6 month consulting gig 120 miles away and my wife might want me to spend my one day a week at home with her and the kids...sheesh, women...

Thanks a lot you guys, I really put some time and effort to get it looking good.

Usually I don't do builds with a side panel window so I would normally just tie strap all wires away from fans and case closed (pun).

This one was a special order build so I had to make it all very neat. The case helped a lot too, it is great for cable management.

u used a 're-used' hdd for a pc ur selling to someone? or was it his?
and why the hell 2 opticals? i never understood that.

other than that nice management. i have way too many wires to hide in my pc... i just gave up after a while..

It was his...definitely. I would NEVER reuse any parts to build a system for someone, must be brand new.

2 opticals...his choice also, a rom and a burner.
I personally only have need for 1 optical drive, a burner.

😛

won't resuse "any parts" .. not even a floppy?
:Q

i have 2 DVD burners .. it does have some advantages 😉
--one is disk to disk copies - try that with a single burner

. . . and i can burn a DVD while playing a game from a DVD [since i don't use 'no DVD' cracks]

AND you can be exploring one, while the other is loading .. i don't know how you feel about saving a few seconds

i think i can burn two different DVDs simultaneously
rose.gif

i got two DVD burners for an *extra* $30 - 2 for $60
-i know, the money i 'saved' by not upgrading my 5 year old case paid for it
😀

[actually, i originally planned on dumping my IDE burner when i got my SATA ... but why?]
:cookie:

Well on my systems, I usually offer a choice of a floppy drive or a 1GB flash drive, since as they cost about the same and people are moving away from using floppies anyway.

😛

Those are pretty good reasons for having 2 drives but I suppose if I end up needing another, I'll get it then, not before...😀

i have 'em both .. well a 2 GB flash drivefor Ready Boost
- i would definitely reuse *either* 😛

[actually my FD is kept separate -outside the case with the connector available for a quick connect ... i haven't used it in ... in ..
... in a long time .. ]
:clock:

anyway, that is a really nice case and build ...
you got me thinking of upgrading *my case*
... i couldn't fit any GPU bigger then what is already there by 1mm more inside .. no tolerance
:Q

i don't think he's saying he wouldn't re-use on his own computer, just not on a customers computer. I will not offer my warranty if I'm not installing 100% new components. I'll transfer all your data off to a new drive or install your old drive in an external case for you, for extra fee's of course but, if you want used components in your new computer and I'm building it; it will not carry my warranty.

That is pretty much exactly what I meant.

😛

ROFL.
That is definitely something I will adopt.

You might not know this but I'm only 22 and I'm trying to start a business, building systems and selling parts, doing repairs and such. I will want to expand it on a much larger scale once it is up and running, maybe even go international but basically I want to be Top Dog in Jamaica for all IT needs.

I'm just in the process of doing word-of-mouth advertising and just some business cards to small circles of individuals...I need to avoid the tax man until I'm able to fully register and establish my business.

Anyway, it is an ongoing process so I'm trying to get a solid customer base and a few clients (repeat customers) so that I can really get a big break.

i knew .. and i wish you the very best .. you have totally the right attitude

-me, i only do it for friends [and that may even change if my Doctor also becomes my "friend" - his system is a MESS ]- so be careful in business; i can "get away" with things a "business" cannot - even though i STILL make my friends put it in writing so there is no dispute, afterward. 😛

and actually, i would suggest you not avoid the tax man ... seriously, get tax help, there are SO many ways to work your small business .. even in the USA for truly small business; there are many advantages to being legal, including the ability to borrow money and take advantage of some government programs for small business.

Well, I don't intend to avoid the tax man...it is just a temporary measure. I don't want them to get at me now and try to make me pay back-taxes for things they think I've sold when in fact I haven't. They will blow it out of proportion and charge me what I can't afford to pay. That would probably make me bankrupt before I even get started...😛

LOL.

Anyway, bottom line is, that is just a temporary measure (being a home business for now) until I can be in a financial situation to get properly registered and such.

Thanks.

Good luck with the business, Cheex!

I know you have a great potential - and this last build is just a small example of that.

Good luck with your business. I don't know how tax laws are laid out down there but, here, you can always just claim what you made as supplimental income at the end of the year. Thats generally what I do. I make enough throughout the year from contract jobs that I always owe at the end of hte year anyway, i'm just used to it. Between sign-on bonuses and completion bonuses and my side jobs my taxes are a mess but, thats why I have people, lol.
