"There are 48 of them on eBay though."
To this day I can't explain why that pisses me off so, but it just does.
I actually had one of these in my hand Friday, walking through checkout @ Fry's -=- and that gag reflex set in...Originally posted by: techmars
fry's has it on sale in store
$69.99 - $60 rebate = $9.99
but is it a good PSU or something loud and noisy
You shouldn't judge a book by its cover. It's actually a pretty high-quality unit, regardless of the packaging. It's worth at least $9.99+taxOriginally posted by: VinDSL

I couldn't buy this PSU, even @ $9.99
I know it sounds silly, but the packaging was so crappy & cheap, it made me wonder about the quality of the PSU!
Hope I don't regret leaving 'home' without it...
Anyway, PSUs with dual 80s are usually V quiet. If you want 'quiet' that's the way to go, IMHO.

Can someone confirm if the fan spins when turned on -- AND when the psu's cables aren't connected to anything?
I don't have a mobo to test it with right now, so I just plugged the power cable into it and flipped the power switch....
I was expecting the fan to at least spin, but nothings happening.
I'm hoping that it's 'smart' enough to not draw power if it's not connected to anything, but would like to verify with someone here -- just to make sure I don't have a dud.
Thanks-

Thanks! I totally forgot about that. I guess I was a little drowsy last night, since I didn't make that connection myself.Originally posted by: daveybrat
Without plugging the power supply into a motherboard, the fans will not spin. Power supplies are electronic now and are controlled by the motherboard, not like the old AT power supplies. You can turn it on manually to test it by using a power supply tester or shorting it out with a paperclip as well.Originally posted by: ttown

So no, you don't have a dud, you just have to wait until you hook it up to your new motherboard.![]()
