With no intention of starting an Intel vs AMD debate, no ultimate system contains an AMD platform, especially not with that kind of RAID setup. 64bit/66mhz PCI bus is imperative to avoid crippling a RAID array like that, and this eliminates AMD all together. Gbit ethernet would be nice too which also requires faster than 32bit PCI. Also, dream machines don't factor in O/C'ing. A quad Xeon with 4GB's+ of RAM would be a lot more impressive than a 1330 TBird.

...someone should do a check on pricewatch...

Any guesses? I'll start the bidding at $20,000!

"Ultimate Home Computer System."

And the point of RAID'ing 16 solid state drives and having almost 2 terabytes of disk space in a home system would be....? Whether or not it is a home system, you are still wasting the vast majority of the RAID arrays performance using 32bit PCI slots. It's one thing to pick the most expensive stuff you can find and call it an ultimate system, it's another thing to actually understand how to utilize the equipment and pair it with other equipment to get the most peformance out of it.

"And what will be the point of the gigabit Ethernet card?"

Fastethernet is only around 8-9MB/s realworld, which is very slow for large transfers over a home network. Gigabit on a server MB would turn a single hard drive into a bottleneck instead of the network. It is also much closer to mass market than a lot of the parts in your system. It's already included in the new top of line Apple G4 systems.

SSD=solid state drive

It's basically a bunch of ram taped together to make a really fast hard drive:)

LOL, most of the stuff you listed arent even made yet, such as the crucial pc2100 memory. The largest size they sold was 128mb and that was before they pulled it. Crucial no longer carries pc2100 at this point :)

you do realize that the soundcard you chose will consistently crash windows 2000 pro and server and not work at all in your other operating systems, right?

whether or not it's being built, isn't it a discussion of an "ultimate home computer system"?
