MMA fighter.. If you are only average fighter, going vs elite boxer or mma fighters (and many mma fighters are) will get you fucked up in no time. Remember, mma fighters train against best on the planet. Seals train to fight average guy with a knife or other weapon.

Who has more pain tolerance? Mma fighter for sure. It is a fact more athletic people can handle more pain. Secondly mma fighter won't panick and can get out of many sticky situations because of skill.

Most of fights WILL go to the ground. Bye bye seal.. If it's not tap out, MMA figher will get on top and pound his face or smash it against ground, etc.. You have to realise, mma figher would probably be 2 times stronger than a person his weight too so it's not like SEAL can overpower him..

you guys have been watching too many movies.
An avg pro mma guy will destroy any avg spec ops operator, whether he be from CAG or DEVGRU.
Trust me on this.

I like how people here think a SEAL is suddenly chuck norris because of a few weeks of training. SEALs get better with time but a pro-fighter does to and does it EVERYDAY usually.

Many pro-fighters would have no problem killing someone, some probably have already done so.

lol? 3 weeks of training? try 30 months

Seals train in Krav Maga, look it up. For street fighting I don't think anything touches it, a highly trained Krav Maga dude would get beat badly in UFC, but a UFC guy fighting a Krav Maga dude in the street would get annihilated. They train to fight dirty as shit and to win by any means. Even a top level BJJ dude would have trouble facing a guy who's tought to try to rip off a dudes nuttsack with his hands, bite off his fingers and gouge out an eyeball. MMA fighters train to fight in a cage/ring, where they know it's going to happen. Krav Maga people train to fight people who attack them out of the blue.

I think even MMA legend Bas Rutten is a big supporter of Krav for protecting your ass in a street fight.

a BJJ dude could arm bar me and break my arm in 3 seconds, which would fucking suck bit time. A Krav Maga expert could literally rip off my sack and leave me without balls. That would be... horrible :D

yeah those guys look REAL tough

Too much TV mate? In the real world a body like Arnold Schwarzenegger in his glory days or Jean Claude Van Damme is an inefficient form, big, heavy, fuel intensive. When your job description includes trekking for extended periods away from the main military force (behind enemy lines or in fact, as is often the case, in countries where war hasn't even been declared with yet) and thus away from the logistical backbone that guarantees food, batteries, water and ammunition for the regular soldier, you don't want to be carrying around all that extra bulk in muscles that you don't actually need.

Notice that athletes competing in endurance events tend to differ greatly in form compared to their power-centric counterparts. A professional marathon runner is almost always much slimmer than a professional 100m sprinter. In SF, endurance is key.

Well, the Seal has a much greater understanding of war and combat related things - knives, guns, stealth, war tactics, etc. The UFC figher only trains for the one-on-one no weapon combat. If you had said an Israeli soldier, it would've been a sort of different story. Krav Maga would be an odd match for many MMA fighters since it utilizes unorthodox (and illegal in the UFC) moves. I say the UFC fighter wins against the seal. Give them both a knife, and the Seal wins. UFC fighter vs. Israeli soldier trained extensively in Krava Maga - I would say each would win 50% of the time.

SEALs learn Krav Maga too, no?

Besides what we see in the movies and such, how many Seals actually see action on a regular basis? People make it seem like there are missions on enemy soil everyday. Guys like Charlie Sheen running behind guards and slitting throats. I would think a city SWAT team sees more calls than the SEALS. That's just my guess. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The self appointed title of World Police guarantees that the US military has a busy schedule. With at least one war somewhere around the world every year the past two decades that the US has supported directly or indirectly, you can guarantee that the tier-one SF forces like SEAL and Delta have lots of things to do in foreign territory. Besides, even if the average SWAT team gets more calls, the vast majority of them involve raiding a junkies home or something to that tune.

It's easy to get caught up in the B.S. with a question like that. What's really important is the science behind it. Simply put, there is no theory of evolution. Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allows to live.

this thread is pure comedy

you think seals spend 2 1/2 years of intense physical, mental and pyschological training to go fight an average guy?

I don't think this is even a question that is debatable. Seals are trained to kill people and to endure the absolute worst pain and torture possible. In addition, it's not like Seals aren't trained extensively in martial arts. An MMA fighter is trained to fight someone, a Seal is trained to endure and to kill - this wouldn't even be close.

Assuming the mma guy would beat up the seal, why would the seal stay and fight? It's not like he's caged in; so why can't he run away (or at least move to a more advantageous environment/go find a weapon)?

Nice article, but in a way what we're comparing here is a swiss army knife to a steak knife.
The navy seal is trained pretty much in everything, while the mma fighter is trained only in combat. I will give the upper hand to the mma fighter.

The Seal would win hands down. He'd shove a load of C4 up the ass of the "Ultimate Fighter, then call in an airstrike. It's not about being tougher...it's about being SMARTER!
