Hmm... not too bad. It would be nice if there were a better warranty at that price.

I have the 500M same as the 600M as far as a case goes. the T40 is a better business class computer, case is more solid, you would have to go with a latitude series to get close to the sturdy build of the IBM . Just my opinion. I am just to cheap to pay that much for a laptop, I never pay more than a grand, at least within the last 3 years or so.

Same here, IBM ThinkPad's are better than Dell's overall. However Dell's are a much better value.

I don't need an indestructible/sturdy laptop, so Dell would suit me just fine. If I were to buy a Dell laptop (shocking gasp :p ) I'd go for the 5150 or 600m.

There's rarely any upgrading for laptop video (never that I've heard of, actually). It's all on-board.

I've heard the same things about IBM vs. Dell; add to that the IBM keyboards are the best out there (just something I'm picky about).

I don't mean to threadcrap, but I have to disagree about this being a good deal. In my opinion its not even warm.

This was a deal a couple weeks ago on basically the same config but minus the DVD, carrying case, modular floppy, red quick snap cover, and surge protector..

DELL Inspiron 600M
1.3Ghz, SXGA+, 64MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9000, 512MB, 40GB, CD-RW
$1507.00
-$226.05 (15% off Inspiron $1499 or more)
-$192.14 (15% off email coupon)
-$150.00 (Mail-in Rebate)
- $35.35 (Fatcash)
+ $89.83 Tax (Free Shipping)
=$993.29 TOTAL

no, because the 500M is basically using shared video and an Intel extreme chipset i think... that's why it is much cheaper than the 600M.

My sister just got her laptopl, ordered for her.

Same specs, except Video 32mb, no surge, no snap, no floppy... For $1470 shipped, including 3 year at home warranty + 3 year completecare.

she used the 15% off inspiron +$1500, and 15% off SB.

YES. I was --><-- this close to getting it at that time, but I couldn't justify it to my girlfriend...

ATI is making their new radeon mobile chips as upgradable

I dont think this is such a great deal either. rather lukewarm that hot
