I had RK (Radial keratotomy) 7 years ago. My vision was 20/15 the day after the procedure.
that was before all this fancy schmancy lazer surgery. He used a knife.
I was on enough drugs that I didn't care, the whole procedure from walking into the surgery room and sitting down to getting up and leaving was about 10 minutes. But this is RK, not Lasik.

I was about ot because my company offered it where it only costed the person $5.00, but now I can't because they pulled that deal. I guess I could....but I don't know if I'm a candidate because I have astigmatism (sp?)
I had this done in 1998. Super results. Best decision ever.
And for those who think the procedure sounds a bit creepy, I assure you it is painless and easy. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Yeah, that's what I've heard. I saw a documentary about a Mt. Everest expedition back in 1996 (I believe), and one of the climbers said he was nearly blind from the air pressure near the top as a result of his recent eye surgery. I'll still probably get it in 2-3 years though, I'm getting so sick of contacts even though I wear continuous use night and days.
edit: I did it last Friday the 20th. A couple questions:
1. Did you see perfectly after 3 days?
2. How long until both eyes could see well and weren't incredibly dry

Yeah...looks like they don't lift it though...not sure. I'm going to attend one of their seminars where they will do a live procedure.

I'm waiting until I'm legally blind (which is quite possible given my family history) or until the length of time these procedures are documented to remain successful exceeds my life expectancy. In other words, for me, the long term data isn't in so I'll wait.

I'm gonna get evaluated to see if I'm a candidate later this year. If I am I'm using my work's medical flex spending account and getting it done.
PRK the older laser eye surgery is th eone that uses no flap. It is done on the surface of the eye that is why. Unlike Lasik it isn't affected by altitude either.

Wife had it done last Thursday. She's using the artificial tears whenever she feels her eyes are dry (about every couple hours).
Her vision was pretty bad before Lasik and it's (no surprise) much improved. She says things are a little foggy but it's less every day. Her friend who had it a few months ago said it took about a month for her sight to stabilize at 20/20, and she had bad vision before Lasik.

I would wait till the technology is better. I had LASIK done through TLC 3 years ago, and the first year was great! Perfect 20/20 vision. However, my vision gradually regressed and I'm now -100 in both eyes and will need an enhancement. I'm dreading doing it, going to suck! To make it worse, the stupid paid off TLC outpatient opt's give me the run around b/c an enchancement is very expensive for them (free for me) to do. Pisses me off when they say stupid sht like: I would wait a couple more years until your eyes stop growing at age 30 (which a total fallacy).

It was dumb of you to get it down when your vision wasn't stable yet. Getting lasik before stable vision is teh lose.
Waveform Lasik is the most costly and can run from 2000-2500 per eye.
Standard Lasik, PRK, and Lasek have similar cost and run about 1000-2000 per eye.
All types have their advantages and disadvantages.
