Ever since I got my ABIT KR7A Raid, I've had the display message unkown flash type right before booting to windows. Now that I wanted to flash the bios to the new 6N, awardflash wont even write to it because it sees the unknown flash type and stops (well actually it never starts writing).

What do I need to do to correct this problem? The computer works fine and all, but Id like to be able to flash the bios to the new one.

In BIOS, selection fail safe settings, disable System BIOS Cacheable, Video RAM Cacheable and all Shadow BIOS - reboot and flash away. :D

Just tried that, no help there either. I have emailed abit too, hopefully they will respond.

On one site I was reading somewhere the potential error messages that can show up in Awardflash writer. Uknown Type Flash is in there, basically it says the bios isnt the right size (impossible, I never changed it) or that its wrecked. Wrecked in what way im not sure. The computer runs fine, loses time once in a while it seems like....Ive always had that uknown flash type since I got the motherboard. If this is the case, hopefully abit will send me a new bios chip and I'll just slap that in.

If Abit does come through and settles fair n square, It will make me one very happy customer. This is my first abit board and I love it....get that stupid bios thing fixed and this board to me is flawless. Very very stable, very fast.

I had the exact same issue with my old MSI BXMaster. I believe I was still able to flash though. I still get that message to this day.

Please post back if Abit gives you an answer.

Abit finally gave me an answer today. I was told to contact a jasmine, to order me a free bios. Guess that settles it, a halfway corrupt bios. Great company I tell you, fast response and ready to fix the problem right away. Definately will be a returning abit customer. :D
