Any superpower is going to exert its power. But you can't compare the US as a superpower to a European superpower. Look at history. Europe raped the world 100x over and its effects are still felt today. I know since you're European that you want us all to ignore how merciless and destructive certain European countries were. I'd rather have the US as a superpower than a European country. The world is so much better off without a European superpower.

Nobody in the world has any regard for others except for themselves and their own interests. Again, a superpower does what it can, even non-superpowers do. It's how the world works. The world isn't a big, nice, grassy meadow where we can all dance and sing and frollick around together. However, I believe that the US is a "benevolent" superpower when compared to past superpowers in history.

I do not know wether or not I would have approved my country's status in the 60ies when we had congo, but I definetly would not stand such a thing now.

I think the whole iraq thing could have been solved if the US would have had some patience and actually convinced the nato to join, for one I'd be more at ease with it. iraq had a dictator, and a cruel one at that, and yes he got what he was asking for, I think the iraqi's might get a better life now, and I say might tho, because what's happening now, iraq is turning into palestina of the US, terrorist attacks everywhere, and the only way they try to fix it is with brute force, well that is only batteling the symptoms, not the cause, the cause is in most cases the batteling of the simptoms, you shoot 5 terrorists and one innocent child, okay, poor chile u might think, but it did hang out with 5 terrorists, well the parents/brothers/sisters of that child hate the US now because the US killed their child/brother/sister and hate leads to violence, and how can you attack a superpower, it will not be done with mass weapons, no it'll be done by terrorism. I'm not saying that I know the solution, or that there even IS a solution, but I do know that another point of view on a situation (such as europe's point of view) might be something to take into conssideration, in your "ideal world" with europe as lapdog of the US there would be no other point of view, just blind followers, like nazi germany. opinions, such as france's opinion were not intended to annoy you, or block you or hinder you, no they where opinions, just that, and france said, I wont go into a war where we dont agree with, it is their right, their military should not die for a reason they dont think is justefied.

and removing saddam was justified imho, but, the reason to start teh war was not justified, if the US wanted to get rid of saddam they should have said so, and not shouted about weapons of mass destruction that they could not prove, they could have easily proven that saddam was one big mofo, and said to europe "guys we should get rid of that mofo cous he's very oppressing and he might have weapons of mass destruction etc."

and what do we see now, the oh so big superpower needs to ask europe for help because the oh so big superpower cant finance it on it's own.

I surely dont see any of the piece and stability the US was going to bring to the middle east, you gambled and you lost, face it. and now u cannot leave because teh country is in chaos, and you dont know what way to go, except for the way of violence. special attack squads trained by israelis to counter terrorism etc, yeees looks to be working juuust fine, israel and palestina, one big happy place to be aint it, all thanks to military, trained commando's etc, that's what we're looking at in iraq, a big problem, without a real solution, because the solution that is being used right now is causing the same problem it tries to solve.

The US is not doing the same thing as the European powers did when they were superpowers. If they did, then the world would be an absolute hell hole. Shouldn't you have replied to the other poster's replies to your post instead of my one line reply which was to someone else?

Although some of your reply here is OK, you're still living in a fairy tale world. Europe doesn't care about the Iraqi people any more than the US does. Everyone just cares about their own self interests.

Again, I agree that the US has done bad things and is doing bad things now just like most other countries, but the magnitude is much less than what the Europeans did as superpowers. I think the world has been much better off with the US than a Euro superpower.

As for the "you have to think forward ... not go back in time." that's just a cop-out. History, especially recent history, shouldn't be forgotten. It paints Europe in a negative light, so I know you'd like everyone to forget it, but that's not going to happen.
