Okay last semester we had static ips and it was sweet as h*ll...
This semester they switched to DHCP and its headache after headache.
Okay first the internet would go out every once-in-awhile.
Then we got that virus.. drawing a blank thinking of its name, and it for like 2 weeks we had 60% uptime. Internet would randomly go out, and sometimes come back in 5 minute, sometimes 5 hours. They kept going "we only have temporary solutions that last a few hours, we're working on a perminant." UGH.
So anyways this weekend we got an email saying they had it all fixed.
Yeah right, never let f*cking students run a network. Network has been sh*t ALL semester. And now its pissing me off.
I can't get on any ftps. I'll try to connect using ftp://user
w@ip and then I'll get a popup asking for user/pw, uh okay, i'll put it in and it'll just time out. Thats in IE... in a real ftp program i'll just never be able to connect. I know someone who runs a big ftp and I asked him if it was up and he didn't even see any logs of me trying to connect :/
They're blocking port21 now!? They also sent an email b*tching about the bandwidth the dorms are using some peopel are using, omg, 1gig a day or more! Sh*t we have an oc3, thats what its made for.
So they now blocked port21? I also ran an ftp for a long time, no one can connect to me no matter what. :/ I don't get how they're blocking this stuff. I tried running it on port21 80 and 6667. 6667 isn't blocked because thats what IRC runs off and IRC works fine.
Is there any way to block just ftp?
I can't connect to a friend of mine in texas who runs an ftp on his college connect, he can't connect to me. A number of others can't connect to me.
ALSO IRC"s DCC doesn't work. I can't dcc to anyone. On my side it just sits there waiting for the other person to hit okay or whatever... on their side they get "[15:34] <blah> Error receiving Lock,_Stock_And_2_Smoking_Barrels.avi from blah: host closed connection"
ALSO MORPHEOUS doesn't work for anyone in the dorm.
I don't get how all this stuff can be block but other things work fine :/
I dont' know much about networking and all, but can you just block some stuff? Can they block ftp on port 6667 but let IRC through?
