Guys, i have a problem. Was sick for the past few days so i couldn't get down to solving it.

See, i was building 3 computers for my friends. They're all built fine, Duron 750@900Mhz, 2Tbirds 850Mhz@950Mhz. (All running RC5 of course! Haven't flushed yet)

These computers have 1 Linksys NIC each. They're connected to a 5 port hub which is linked to another LinkSys NIC in my main computer (Duron 900Mhz) That main computer has another NIC, an Intel Pro which is linked to my cable modem.

The network is set up using ICS. Internet, filesharing, all works fine for the computers in the network, fetching and flushing for RC5 is perfect too.

But ever since the network is up, my proxy and webserver stopped working for everyone else outside of my network. Seems that even loading http://jinsonxu.teamanandtech.com has problems and NO one outside of my network can access my proxy. Any ideas on that? I've asked Brad about it too but he couldn't assist much either.

Also, is it necessary for me to have that 2nd NIC?

What operating system are you using? Win9x doesn't play nice with two NICs installed...but you should be able to get away from using that second NIC if you can plug your cable modem directly into the hub (some modems can do this, some can't). If that doesn't work, then you may have to go to some variety of the NT operating system in order to properly implement use of both NICs.

However, before going through the drastic measures of installing a new OS, check the settings on the NIC for the Cable Modem, just to make sure nothing was changed when you installed the Linksys for your local network...

By the way, I can ping jinsonxu.teamanandtech.com just fine, so it may also be a problem with the settings in your web server software (It may have somehow switched to trying to use the NIC for the internal network rather than the NIC for the cable modem...)

Hi Jinsonxu,

I've been pondering for a couple of days and I think it's ICS that's causing your problem. With it running it's acting as a partial firewall ad may be blocking the external traffic from getting through. To check it point you browser over the Shields Up website and get it to probe your IP. Chances are with ICS running it'll report most of your ports either closed or stealthed.

Let me know how you get on. You know where to find me
