Uhm... what's going on with my computer

Here's the situation:
I upgraded my stock cooling. In the process, I rerouted my cables to increase airflow. When I reconnected everything, and went to power on, I was met with a long beep that repeated. When I looked at my diagnostic LED (MSI Neo4 Platinum/SLi) it told me it had something to do with my memory. My memory is in slots 3 and 4, one of the two ways to get Dual Channel DDR400 (the other way is with slots 1 and 2). Before tearing apart my computer and reassembling today, this worked perfectly. However, I changed the memory to slots 1 and 3, which yields Dual Channel DDR333. This allowed me to post. However, I really don't want to run my memory at DDR333, and when I tried to OC it to DDR400 it wouldn't post. I'm really confused, please help me out!

Memory: OCZ Platinum 3200 2-3-2-5
Motherboard: MSI Neo4 Platinum/SLi
CPU: Athlon X2 4400+

UPDATE:
I emailed MSI and they said there was a problem with my CPU as it has the on die memory controller. Could there be any truth to that?

did you try to reseat your memory in 3 and 4 before you moved them? Also on the MSI if you run in 1 and 3 you are not in dual channel.

I think you answer your own question put the memory in slots 1/2 and attempt to post. then 3/4 and attempt to post. Then work with one stick at a time.

Do you need to reset your memory voltages? Memory Timings? CPU voltage? Cpu Timings? These sometimes reset to a safe value when your PC doesnt post.

Could it possibly be due to running more fans on certain lines from my power supply?

Sticks in 1 and 2 doesn't post. Sticks in 3 and 4 doesn't post. Stick in 1 posts. Stick in 2 doesn't post. I haven't tried for 3 by itself of 4 by itself. Thanks for the help guys.

I'm still lost... booting with a stick in the 3rd slot works, but not in the 4th...

Edit: So basically, whenever one stick is in the purple slots (2 or 4) the computer doesn't post. What gives? Could these two slots have gotten shorted out somehow?

Could my memory controller on my X2 have gotten messed up somehow? Should I reseat my processor?

Is the OCZ platinum on the list of appoved rams for your mobo? Did it work with no problems before you changed the HSF? Recheck all the connections from the PS to the Mobo including the 4pin aux, maybe got loose when rearranging cables?

The RAM is approved, and it worked without any problems before I changed the HSF. I'll check the cables in a sec.

Edit: Unplugged the ATX, and the 4 pin, plugged them in again, and still doesn't boot in Dual Channel. WTF?!

I'm about to cry :( :p

I think it's probably one of the following things:

-My mobo got funked up (Channels 2 and 4 are completely borked)
-My processor's on die memory controller is messed up, however I have no idea how that would happen. Maybe a bent pin?

I need help still :) Thanks to everyone that's contributing.

What is the wattage on your power supply?

Set your ram config to auto and bank interleave to auto or off and test again.
You may want to consider doing a full reset on your bios and testing from there.

Also swap your ram chips around it sounds like your leaving in stick 1 in slot 1 and moving around stick 2. Put stick 1 in slot 1 just to be sure your second stick of ram isnt bad.

Wow! I,m kind of stumped!

Logic says if the only thing that changed is the HSF, then that should be your only potential problem area. I would boot up with 1 ram stick and run Prime95 for a while and check stability and CPU temps, it's possible that the HSF isn't seated good which is causing heat and instability with the ondie memory controller.

I checked switching the sticks, so I don't think one is bad :\

Sorry dude I am at a loss. Can you put the original cooling back in as a last ditch attempt to see if it works?

If its any consolation so you dont feel isolated I lost 3 mobo's this past year. No leaky capacitors and they are all on battery backup with good power supplies too. luckily the boards are older and I can get them for around $30.00 a piece but it never happens at a convenient time. Also lucky it wasnt my main rig.

Good luck.

Running 2 instances of Prime95, each set at Priority 10, and right now my CPU temp is 35 degrees (it was 50 before the heatsink swap!). I don't really think that temp is a problem, I'm really really at a loss now.

Hmm... weirdest problem ever! Is there any possibility that maybe getting some Isopryl Alcohol on the pins of my cpu screwed up the memory controller, making it impossible to run Dual Channel? I let it dry before I reseated it, but that's the only way I could see my processor being at fault. Maybe my motherboard got messed up in the process, but I truly have no idea how that could've happened :\

Swapped the sticks of RAM, and I'm able to run this one by itself also. Any possible ideas where the problem could be located?

As I mentioned before, I got some Isopryl Alcohol on the pins of the cpu. Could this be the culprit? Should I reseat the CPU to see if that indeed it the problem? I really don't want to go through the hassle, but if that's my last resort I guess I should do it...

So, you're able to run with either stick of RAM in slot 1, and you can run with one in slot 1 and one in slot 3, but you can't run with one in slot 1 and one in slot 2?

What I would do next is strip everything down as much as possible to isolate the problem. MB, CPU, RAM in slots 3 and 4, no drives connected, no fans connected (other than the CPU fan of course), power it up, and see what happens.

If you're able to get into Windows and run Prime95, I doubt if the CPU is the issue at all. My money is on the motherboard or the RAM.
