Uhm.. are Ratpadz supposed to wear out this fast?

Though I've been visiting HOCP for longer than I remember, I never picked up a Ratpad. But all the people praising them, setting up shrines, banning and insulting anyone who dare bring up any other brand on the hardforums convinced me to try it out. And you know what? Ratpadz suck. A lot. The first few days were great, like gliding on air. Then a few weeks go by and now it's all worn down and it feels like trying to move the mouse across rubber. I washed it occasionally like was recommended and applied Pledge, but there's still a noticeable flat spot in the middle of the other rough areas.

Anyone else had this happen? They're cheap so it's not a loss, but I feel so betrayed. If you can't trust hopeless fanboys, who can you trust?

Pic? Mine is still in pristine condition but it was only used for about 5 months until I switched to the C4 NGen.

plastic pads will wear flat spots in a year or so. thats how it works. esp if you don'tuse teflon tape on your mouse. logitech mice tend to lose their feet first since they are soft teflon, then the corner wears the pad, microsoft just has hard ick pads.

cshyde.com get a c4 mousepad and some mousetape🙂

i've gone through several of those plastic pads. no more...

Only teflon taped mice have ever touched it. I expected it to flatten, but not after two weeks.

Thanks for that link. I'm definitely going to pick up one of those.

hm thats really abnormal then. is there grit embedded in the tape or pad? is the tape the only thing touching? or is one of the feet so worn down that another part of the mouse is making contact? 1 yr is more normal then weeks.

i tossed off the ratz and everglides to siblings/parents who couldn't care less about flat spots.then again they don't game and would run the pad straight ont he desk for all they cared 😉

depends on usage. and its not smooth as in totally flat that its obvious, but when seen at an angle with bright light, u can see a spot thats worn more then the rest. and its annoying for those of us who want total smoothness

There`s only two mouse pads that have long term durability, the ICEMAT which is made of glass and SteelPad which`s made of metal, all plastic mouse pads will eventually wear out, even if you use teflon feet, like all things depends on your usage and how much punishment you give your mouse pad and mouse.

I read reviews on the ratpad and a lot of hardcore gamers said their pad only lasted a few weeks before it was worn. That caused me to get the sUrface from func (www.func.net), and it's held up very nicely so far. It also comes in black, so don't let that ugly blue and orange throw you.

My Ratpadz lasted a few months. I tried pledge to bring it back to life, but no dice.😀

I've been using the fUnc pad for about 6 months or so and it's still going strong. 🙂
