All of these panos are really big and detailed, so doing a simple heal or clone is going to be tough for filling in the blank spots.

I don't know how I forgot about this huge block of sky.

Nice chunk missing from the middle.

Pretty big amount missing from the bottom left.

:(

Causes:

Not paying attention.

Forgetting that there are parts of the pano you HAVEN'T taken a picture of. Thinking that you already got all the shots needed for the pano when you really haven't.

Distortion (#3)

Taking two separate sets of photos for what you think will just be two separate stitches, only to find out later that these stitches can actually be combined into one bigger, better stitch... except you're missing a part. This might be what happened for #1 and #2.

=/

that doesn't look like somewhere that you could just go back and do it again.

I know the feeling. I can use the excuse that I was completely clueless when I took these seven years ago, but I'm still annoyed that I didn't get more upper right and lower left in this set of shots. When cropped, there's only a very narrow strip of usable ridgeline left out of this one: (I did cheat and rotate it so that the ridge is horizontal in the "finished" product but that ruins the effect of the sloped ridge. I suppose I should be happy that I don't have a hole in the middle. :p

No, no they're not. I'm currently about 2,000 miles away from any of them. :(

I mean..... AHHHHHHHH.... it's so frustrating because on the Bryce one I'm only missing a small patch... just a couple of extra clicks and I would have had it.

The Bryce one (#2) would have been a really nice and detailed 364 MP stitch. Now I have to settle for two separate stitches or do some crazy, crazy photoshopping. I mean, just to give you a sense of the detail, you can easily zoom in and resolve each individual pine tree in that picture.

Yeah, I do the same thing too sometimes.

It's also pretty easy to sort of lose your orientation of where you are in the pano as you're taking a picture of it, especially when there's something with no "position markers" like a sky.

now that is impressive. I still have your stitch of the USS Wisconsin saved on my hard drive. I ought to make a folder just for FBB pics.

perhaps I should invest in a pan-tilt head for my tripod. my 486RC2 is great for sports and stage photography, due to the instant flexibility at the turn of a knob, but it isn't very accurate for panorama stitches.

*goes to check B&H*

EDIT: schnarf, a Bogen-Manfrotto 390RC2 3-way pan-tilt head is $60 shipped to my door.
devil on shoulder: "it comes with an RC2 plate, so then I would have two!"
angel on shoulder: "the D90 hasn't been released yet, and the D300 is your current fantasy, so you need to save up for it"
dammit

FBB, I must say that you so many incredible panoramics from your constant travels. I endlessly have the similar problems....even using a tripod! I took what I thought would be an amazing pano from St. Peter's cupola, only to discover that I am missing a hugh chunk in the middle.

I would love to get this head, but sadly its way to expensive! Although....this one is much more reasonable.

Oh dear god. The Bryce image, saved as a layered .PSD/.PSB file, is 11.2 GB in size....
