uhhhhg my geforce card is dead? ++update++

I have a athlon xp thorobred 1800+
and an ECSK7S5A ....

installed winxp....and all drivers.
when i run 3dmarks2001 the screen got all jumbled up.....you know the look when ya fry sumthin? lol
anyway the computer wouldnt reboot...until i set memory at 100/100 ...then it booted as a 1.1 gig duron....ran 3dmarks and boom crashes at the second test withj same jumbled bright flashing colors. tried samsung pc2100, crucial..and kingston pc2700.....this has good cooling for an xp 1800+

mbm monitor wont display any temps for me either...so i dont know my temps....dont often go into bios to check temps...

where do i start?

bad board?


edit...just installed a 600 duron it....runs fine in windows....but when i run 3dmarks it crashes....back to windows...so it must be mobo or somethin in bios?

Bad board is the LAST thing that causes these effects. Weak power supply unit, bad RAM, poor or poorly mounted CPU cooling (particularly with Thoroughbreds - got a copper base heatsink?).

oops didnt know caps were on.....bought the board on forums....its been almost a month would feel bad askin for refund...


btw the computer doesnt crash until i run 3dmarks...havent tried games yet...it had a bunch of failed boots after the first crash...? bad board is my guess...but i hope not

Yeah if it runs fine in windows it has to be the motherboard Did you memtest86 your RAM? Which OS(9x or2k/XP)? What videocard do you have installed? What driver version(did you have a different driver set or videocard in there before?) Which AGP driver is installed?(1.9? 1.10?)

Wimpy 300W power supply would be my prime suspect.

just changed the board....the power supply...and case....300watt case...still same problem...gunna try reinstalling winxp


edit........ugh......its either powersupply or video card? just reformatted and let winxp install drivers for me except for the geforce card.....the 3dmarks wont run....same jumbled screen with bright colors ...hope my geforce 4 isnt bad

Well since you replaced the MB and power supply and clean installed the OS, do what Peter said and check your RAM and the HS(a wimpy clip might not keep it in good contact with the core).

i reinstalled heatsink and fan....and ram......different ram even.

put my geforce 4 in it from this computer and it ran flawless for 2 runs of 3dmarks....

my other geforce 4 card must be dead. I dont think i can rma it cuzzz i had it 1 month...its never been overclocked, i bought it online from a trader. when i put the other card back in 3dmarks wont run. the card runs it for a few tests. also it runs hisgh 32 bit resolution while surfing net and all......is the card dead or not? uhg

i think it is my gainward card.....darn....anyone know if gainward will replace it? newegg is the people that sold it to the guy i bought it off of.

gainward cards have a 3 year warranty. i just wonder if they will require u to produce certain documents.

are you getting the pink screen of death?
or are you getting the checker board effect in 3dmark2k1?
