Fiddling inside my box, then turned on PC, everything was alright until XP started freezing. I restarted, and PhoenixBios wouldn't detect memory, although it could detect my 1.4 ghz Athlon. It just stalls at "Checking Memory."

I restarted a few times, and same notice came up. Then I looked inside my box, and I noticed that the ball bearing fan (i have a Epox 8k7a) was unplugged somehow. I plugged it back in and it now spins, yet Bios stalls at "checking memory."

Is there anything I can do here? What the heck happened?

Btw, i ahve 2 x 256 MB crucial 2100 ddr ram

while fiddiling around, did you happen to move the multiplier switches. The multiplier is controlled through a set of switches as opposed to the normal jumper setting method on this mobo. Pic of switches here. If you did, that will cause you system to not boot correctly.

Nah, if he did that then it wouldn't POST. Or thats the way it's been on the MBs i've worked on.

Sounds like ur ram just went bad... if u can get into the BIOS try setting it to looser settings and see if u can get it to boot into Memtest86. If not try clearing the CMOS, and if u still get the same error, try a diff stick of ram, or try them separatly to see if it boots.

Good Luck! I know how frustrating it can be.

BTW, i don't think the fan being off for awhile would cause any major damage, i've done it before without concequences

Edit my bad grammar :)
