Alright. I have two DHCP-assigned computers; let's take 4.3.100.169 and 4.3.100.167; as they always apppear. Note that that is NOT the correct address so don't mess with it =). In this case, the computers share the same first three octets, the same subnet, and the same gateway.
The way DHCP is assigned to them, the two always get the same IP address every bootup (see above) and are always subnetted 255.255.248.0. The gateway is 4.3.100.1, in this case.
Tonight I crashed and had to reboot; suddenly the network connections wouldn't restore! On my main computer, I can no longer access the 'Workgroup' in Network Neighborhood (My Network Places; same thing). I tried an ipconfig /release and /renew; no go. I tried uninstalling TCP/IP, Client for MS Networks, and MS File and Printer sharing - no go either. They can no longer ping each other, either. It worked for the past four months now they can't even ping? WTF?
Anyone got a clue? Same first three octets; same subnet..
