Change is many times resented because it takes one out of the comfort zone.

Mods should moderate, not change the layout so they don't have to. This isn't change, other forums do this and it blows.

Same discussions, same arguments, same nastiness every time someone opens a new thread. Happens here, happens on other fora. I'm reading the same non-info stuff over and over again. I'm sick of it.

Hopefully this split will reduce the amount of times a poster feels the need to "defend" his favorite brand. More technical discussion. Less religion. Thanks AT.

I suspect that the Mods that desire to cleanup this place have been gelded.

Easier to not make waves that stand up for the betterment of this forum.

Isn't it obvious? It's an attempt to ease moderation requirements.

Sub-forums reduce the concentration of threads per forum. This in turn reduces general interest and the desire for people to post.

To put it bluntly, they're trying to cut video traffic down, and you can already see the effect.

AMD's new GPU releases probably accelerated the rollout as I can't believe the timing was a coincidence.

Maybe they should call for more moderators then.

I agree. I can see displays and possibly future VR having their own forums but this AMD, NVIDIA, General discussion just drives people away. Now I have to go through 3 forums just to catch up on what's going on. This is not a good way to go.

The mods are volunteers. And Video needed an intense amount of moderating almost constantly. Every damn thread would be infested with descending flame war lovers one way or another and it had to get temp locked, cleaned, all participants in it's upset warned, infracted, banned, whatever. Takes time. I know, I did it. This is the way. Everyone will get used to it and it is only one click more to get where you want to go.

The CPU forum has been slowly dying over the years because of lack of competition from AMD. Any time I visit there are only a handful of new threads. The most active discussion in the past two weeks has been in the "Intel and AMD say by 2015 We will have 128 core CPU's" necro thread from 2005. The same fate awaits VCG forums now. The VCG forum is already on the decline with 3 year flagship cycles, now it's only going to get worse.

Flame wars have been going on here for a decade or more. Why the sudden impetus to change now?

If it's about organizing information along the two approaches, you actually just end up making it harder for manufacturer-agnostic members to compare information. No one likes digging down into subforums, either.

And please, please declare a moratorium on new forums and subforums. There's already decreased activity in most of the forums compared to a few years ago. It's annoying to browse a dozen forums I'm interested in, and on top of that you have the terrible mobile implementation that makes it harder to browse the forums. If it's less forum participation you are going for, this is precisely the way to achieve it.

What used to be the Video Cards and Graphics forum is still in place -- it's called "Graphics Cards -- General Discussion" now. If that's the forum you're looking for, participate there.

The way you always have -- in the General Graphics section. Nothing has changed there.

It's obvious that several of you do not understand what was done here, or why.

Those of you looking for Video Cards & Graphics will be advised that it is still here, and has a new name: Graphics Cards -- General Discussion. Continue to participate there, and disregard the other changes, as they more than likely won't apply to you.

Why do you keep denying that this is a change? VC&G is absolutely not the same forum when AMD and Nvida discussions have been split out.

It discourages discussion - and it it feels like ONE MORE artificial barrier between AMD / NVidia, forcing people in a subforum based on brand. I can understand it on a GPU oriented site like maybe Guru3d, but not here.

What is the next step?

Say subforums for routers, PCs, cases etc. based on BRAND?

I really, really do not like this.


Edit: And by the way, "flame wars" would actually be something positive. Rather flame-wars than a dead site! This is a horrible decision, it kills discussion, the main reason I VISIT this site.

Heh, good luck with that. The video forum chews up moderators like a grinder, and the permanent moderators don't want to touch it with a pole. Some ex-video mods have quit the site completely and don't even post anymore.

Certain posters in video are so blatantly one-sided that they're either shills, employees, and/or own company shares. No legitimately unbiased consumer would exhibit such behavior.

I used to be a video mod but I voluntarily stepped down. I'm not interesting in baby-sitting those zealots for free while some higher-up in the main site collects checks from forum traffic advertising.

The only realistic way to police that place is to make video moderation a paid position.

They really don't need to be so aggressive with their moderating. I understand stopping the personal attacks, but it's not that big a deal when threads go off on tangents, which they are constantly trying to stop.

I agree. Please change the VC&G back to it's original state. It's got to reduce traffic when people just say FI. I'm sorry that the admin feel a need to squelch all kinds of conflict. It can be done, but at the cost of the life of this very board. You just can't turn off human nature. So, you allow some of it, but keep it regulated so it doesn't go over the top. You think that AT is the only board that goes through with this stuff? I was an admin on another board that finally went belly up after 14+ years. Over moderation and stuff like this causes boards to die. These forums should be fun. We're talking about computer hardware here. What's not to love? 😎

Get more volunteers. And it's not one more click. If I'm in the AMD forum and want to read nVidia I have to go back to the parent forum then go to nVidia. If I want to compare and contrast information about two products that aren't in the same forum I have to do a whole lot of clicking back and forth. Just like gun control isn't going to stop someone who wants to shoot someone from shooting someone, forum control isn't going to stop people who want to argue from arguing.

I'm pretty certain that there are paid posters here. There's one fellow that is pro-Intel and anti-AMD, and seems a lot like Trollolo. You all know who I'm talking about. And when I called them out on it, I get in trouble, and not them for their constant brand-disparaging remarks.

It's frustrating.

Some might consider me slightly biased as well, given that I don't like how Intel and NV treat their customers and / or abuse their near-monopoly positions, and I do tend to root for the underdog. But I've complained and criticized AMD just as well, and I've owned various video cards from both camps, purchased based on my needs, not any kind of fanboyism.

I don't yet own any Maxwell cards. I was actually hoping that we would see a cut-down 750 / 750 ti card, for HTPC / desktop usage, that would be around $50. The 750 is still stupid-expensive, and they just keep re-branding Kepler instead of giving us cut-down Maxwell, for the 730 / 740 / etc. range.

Anyways, I'm getting OT for this sub-forum. Just pointing out that I'm not biased against buying a video card from either camp, when it's a good value.

I'll add another vote for reverting this change. I'm already finding myself checking the main forum and ignoring the others, since it's too much work to check them all regularly. The division doesn't even make sense since half the threads on the Fury are in the main forum and the rest are in the AMD forum.

As others said, it's better to have an active forum with flamewars than a dead forum that nobody visits. VCG is not even that bad these days, nothing like how it once used to be.

The split really doesnt make any sense. The new sub forums are for owners of each brand...except you allow launch and speculation threads. Looks like a total cluster having to switch between the main forum and the amd sub to read about the upcoming fury release.
