Uhggg...how much do data recovery services cost??

I sat down to my PC a little while ago, and after about 5 min, I heard the click of death on my backup drive I was working with last night.

Got any recommendations for low cost data recovery services? Just curious how cheap the go these days.

Oh well, at least it's still under warranty (so I can get another one of the POS drives)

if the drive is still alive, I could do it for you fairly cheap. say.... 10 bucks a meg of data recovered

Unfortunately this is one of those cases that if you have to ask...

CorporateRecreation is on the right track, if the drive is still limping along get what you can off of it. Even if Windows can't see the data on it there are 3rd party apps that will be able to get some back (most likely).

Viper GTS

The freezer trick worked great for me a couple years ago when I woke up one morning to clicking coming from a WD 80GB drive. I put it in a anti-static bag inside a ziplock freezer bag and put it in the freezer for 30-45 minutes. It worked just long enough for me to copy the data to another drive.

Yeah, as long as it still is recognized as a drive, even if Windows cannot read the data, there is a very good chance of getting it off before it goes.

Do NOT use or write anything to the drive and do not use Windows to do this..

I was going to ask about the freezer trick. I'll give that a try

any advice on 3rd party apps for data recovery?? It does not appear that I can access the drive from XP

I'm using getdataback ntfs to recover deleted info on a drive as I'm typing.
I've recovered many dead drives with it. If the drive is mechanically borked, then the freezer trick or a like rebuild will get it done.
