ok, my i got a new HD and downloaded windows XP. Everything went fine but the resolution wouldnt go past 680x400 or something and 16-bit color. It said that this would happen and to click on the bubble, and i did but nothing happened so i went to adjust it through settings and it wouldnt work. Then i clicked on trouble shooting and did everything it said but none of the solutions worked. by then i was pretty mad so clicked on everything i could and eventually disabled the drivers or something. I know that is the stupidest thing i could of done but thats me. so now it goes through the windows loading thing but then just goes blank. Does anyone know how to fix it?by the way the monitor is not new, nor is the computer its just a new HD. i was going to reformat but my keyboards dont work, which would be my second problem.
When windows boots up a screen shows up that says "Keyboard is not functional or is not plugged in" so then i pugged it in, and pressed F2 and it worked but when i get into windows it doesnt work at all.I did this with three keyboards with the same results. would getting a USB keyboard help, or does anyone know if there are PS/2 to USB adapters? well, help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think this is one occasion where a fresh installation of Windows is justified. BTW, your keyboard should be working prior to Windows running, so pop the WindowsXP CD into the CD drive and reboot off the CD, then install Windows. (Do you know how to boot off the CD?)

thats what i tried to do but the keyboard wont work so i cant press enter to install windows.

reformat - reinstall is definitely the way to go.

have you checked the keyboard's ps2 connector? the ps/2 port might have some quirks that can cause that. it happened to me once, the keyboard will only work if the ps/2 jack was propped up in a certain orientation.

howard-the monitor isnt the problem any more, but i should have come here.

saxguy-i tried that with several keyboards with no sucess and i cant reformat wihout a keyboard.

maybe i'll get a USB keyboard...i wanted to get the logitech elite anyway

Maybe the PS2 port on your mobo died. Give the USB one a try. Good luck.

i got a usb to ps2 adapter on my mouse - you should be able to get a ps2 to usb adapter - look at

You might want to try a Repair installation of XP.

Thanks for all the help guys. I got the keyboard to work and i reinstalled windows on the HD with the monitor problems, but i still cant get it out of 680x400 resolution. ill have to work on it for a while.

you do have video drivers installed, correct? after a format/reinstall i cant get past 640x480 until i install my video card drivers.
